Ive just trainded in an new sex education scheme which is aimed towards year 9 students.it is called APAUSE. i thought that this was a fantastic scheme because it allows 17 and 18 year olds teach with the aid of sex hekpers to teach the year nines on a more intence level.

i was wondering whether or not you have either heard of it experinced one of the APAUSE sessions or are infact an APAUSE peer teacher yourself

i would like to hear other peoples views on the scheme!

ive heard of something similar, but it wasnt called that. When i was in school in my last year, there was a group made up and the members of the group went to the lower years of the school and did presentations/talks to them about sex.

I haven't heard of that scheme, but I trained with Sexpression through Medsin (med students international), it was a great experience and I'm hoping to teach again next year.

Yeah, I heard of this and we have this running in our school, and its down to the 6th formers to put themselfs foward, to help give the sessions, Its been going in our school for few Years now, and in sep.I will be joing the group to help teach and talk to the students bout this, I think its a really good thing as they can maybe feel more able to talk about it, if its someone of a younger age. (17.19 yrs rather than somebody from outer school ) Tis all good. :)

At our school, us 6th formers have the choice to become a sex ed 'teacher'. We're taught how to teach the young'uns Sex Ed on a weekend away somewhere, and then they come back and teach the yr 9's and 10's....
It's run with a company that also do a drug teaching programme too..

Never heard of it but it sounds like a good scheme, British sex education needs some MAJOR improving...
I remember mine, afew few true or false question sheets followed by the teacher giving us the correct answers, at aged 15 when i'd been having sex for at least a year.
I hope the programmes successful and helps out some kids, good luck :)

I didn't get any sex ed - All I remember is around yr 7, sitting with 3 classes of kids, watching a video...

One lad fainted...

And that's all I remember - I didn't learn anything at all!

i think sed education in schools today is a joke, they need to have alook at what theyre doing and do a complete overhaul and improve it. some of the teachers arent fully trained. the whole subject is a hush hush one. they only did the basics when i was learning, i learnt more from tv and magazines then anything i learnt in school. although im sure the school expect you to be taught the in and outs at home whilst most parents shy away from the subject with there children.

That reminds me...

In this sex ed group at my school - the main 'teachers' are the girls in 6th form that know a lot about sex *in other words... they put it about*
So much so, that one of them taught the kids how to put a condom on with her teeth and gave a demonstration *with a model penis, not a real one!* ....

We learned about sex ed in Science, but it wasn't even to do much with sex. We never got any in PSE either.

My sister's friend said he got his sex ed in Primary 6! Maybe m school was a prude school :chin:

we got taught in year 6 sitting on the floor watching a video and it had people standing naked on it and when there was a close up of a penis our teachers looked very interested. And then there was a bit something along the lines of "when a woman and a man love eachother they may want to have their own baby...."
