I'll turn on the PC, and the monitor remains blank. It'll only work when I switch it off at the mains and turn it back on again. This annoys me.
Any helpful advice appreciated.

How old is the monitor? It might be on its way out. Also like gavman said check the pins too.
Good luck

Prick. ;p
Everything seems to be fine, it just doesn't turn on unless I turn the power off first.
does the system beep when you power-on? if not (or if it beeps more than one) there could be a fault somewhere along the line (if there's more than one beep look in your motherboard manual for information about what the series of beeps means)
are you sure you don't have a second built-in graphics card on the motherboard? it's common for someone to put in their new Geforce 21 ultra 12850000 ti babble and forget to actually set the bios to use the secondary graphics card
if you built this machine yourself, check that the harddrives are connected properly, and the ram is securely fitted, if in doubt remove the harddrive and try booting, or it might be an idea to remove all the hardware and put it in peice by peice switching it on and off so you can see where along the build process you've gone wrong.
other than that generic somewhat tech-support sounding babble I can't really help you unless you provide more detailled information about your problem, and if you didnt build the computer or you are afraid to take the case off then I imagine you'll be paying through your teeth for some guy to fiddle with a few internal connections

noog.
there i go replying before ive read the whole thread,
i imagine that's a fuckup in the bios configuration somewhere, or a faulty motherboard

Thanks:
When I boot it up after I've turned it off and on at the mains it works properly and beeps once.
When it doesn't work properly the system appears to boot up and makes system-like noises, but there is no beep.
I didn't build it myself.
How would I go about finding out if I had a 2nd built-in graphics card?

That would be very good of you, but unfortunately I have no replacement. Much appreciated though.
