I've had my PC man round, and he's taken my DVD-RW away to be fixed *I wouldn't let him take my whole pc lol I'd miss it too much* and it seems that it's duff. It's less than a year old, and has made about 150 CD-R copies...

Was it that that killed it? or was it a crappy DVD-RW in the first place? My PC is a Compaq Presario..

probably just a faulty unit, dont let them charge you more than £50 for the replacement though :-)

I.T. technicians charge obscene amounts for repair work. I work as one myself, and get paid £6.75/hour but we charge about £50/hour for the work....! Most of the money goes to admin. I'm totally against this though, not because £6.75 is low in comparison but it's the principle.

Ilora, if they ever dream of charging £50, then tell them to "shoo" and use the £50 on a new drive. Also, check to see where you stand in your warranty because most pre-built computers are covered for 3 years.

Your DVD-RW should be abe to burn FAR more than 150 ish disc's, so probably faulty usint, and you have been unlucky. If it's under warrenty, the manufactuer may want it back, and will authorise a replacement.

If you are paying for the PC guy, don't get ripped off dude :-) If you have to buy a new one

It should have a MINIMUM one years manufacturers warranty!

150 disks doesn't sound a lot to burn before it develops a fault. I've burnt out CD ReWriters before, but it's taken several hundred disks to do it. Unfortunately they've been outside of the 12 month warranty. :( Yours is within 12 months, and should be replaced under warranty. Check what your warranty says though.
