Bob Dylan (do I need to say why!!!)
Duran Duran (Because they were so crap and I hated them so much that I started listening to other stuff instead of following my ffriends)
The Smiths (Just for saying things I wanted said)
Manic Street Preachers (It was so great to have a band come from Wales and be hated so much by so many for so long)
P J Harvey - (at last a woman of my generation who knew how to do more than play bass and screech)

Sisters of mercy - (for the Goth years!!)
REM - (For 'Document' and 'Green')
Marlena Shaw (For Woman of the ghetto)
Marc Almond (always great)
Joan Baez (for singing the song I was named after)

nirvana: the band i've always turned to in times of despeir, and have grown up with

the cure: again another band i've grown up with, and love so much.

placebo: my best mate introduced me to placebo. we gave each of our group a placebo song which we think defines them.

AFI: another band mr fairy intoduced me too.

massive attack: i've grown up with them and saw them play at glastonbury. fantastic

the smashing pumpkins: they and nirvana opened my mind and my eyes to the world. the melodies are just so soothing and lovely.

ok, ones that were important at some point, and not necessarily my favourites now.

REM. automatic for the people was the first tape i ever bought. aw. i still have it somewhere.

green day - the dookie years. while i was trying to fashion myself as some kind of teenage rebel.

radiohead - pablo honey/the bends/ok computer. cause we've all sung along to 'creep' and thought how faboulously it describes us. how sad.

live - 1997. i remember it well. we played this all summer and tried to form a band.

stone temple pilots - and then when we realised our band was shite, we listened to this.

ani difranco - years have passed, and ani still has a song that describes your feelings better than you can in any situation.

no use for a name - got me through college.

me first and the gimmie gimmies - ditto

massive attack - ah, the memories.

sometimes you speak the truth so much that i think you secretly watch everyone when they're on their own.
but yes it is sad to do, but we love it.

i've just spent 3 years on a writing degree, where they taught us a lot about observation and representation.

Yes, I am a raver, and what of it, just because your venting you teenage angst about how unfair life is through blokes shouting above loud gitars dont take it out on me.

I mean Slipnot dont even really form words, they just make noise loudly.

The 'teenage angst' you are on about is non-existant :p If I have any angst i usually take it out on my sister.

Folk can listen to metal music solely because they like it y'know, not to make any bold statements about how 'different' they are or shit like that.

1. Metallica - Opened a lot of doors for me. I got into metal because of them and have never regretted it.

2. The Clash

And 3. The Sex Pistols - Both helped me release a lot of aggression through rough times when most other people would have smashed something up.

4. Jimi Hendrix - Legend

5. Rancid - I thought punk was dead until I heard them, they may have toned down a bit but deserve a lot of respect.

6. Aphex Twin - For a headbanger to call any electronica performer an underrated genius would be a great compliment. This applies to Richard D James. I listened to Windowlicker by accident and he is living proof that electronic music can be far from the seemingly mindless repetetive drivel in clubs and can be an artistic force on a part with any "manual instrument" music form. I was very anti-electronica until I listened to his work and saw the videos.

7. Black Sabbath - Godfathers of Metal.

8. Soundgarden - The best grunge band, far better than Nirvana.

9. GG Allin - If society were a human form, GG Allin would be the excrement. Makes Marylin Manson and Ozzy Osbourne look like Busted. He is everything you know exists but want to look away from.

10. Iron Maiden - I made a lot of friends through my love of the band.
