View Full Version : Troy!
I saw it last night; fuckin' fab.
I'm not usually into all these mad spectacular fight-fest films, but this one was brand new.
Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt get shirtless - a LOT! Well..they get shirtless like, three times. :naughty: :D
Nah, just taking the Michael . It's not as gruesome as Gladiator, but still a fancy story.
The fight scenes were cleverly choreographed, however a bit Matrixy, but still had you on the edge of your seat.
Anyone else saw the previews?

Funny, I wasn't too impressed. It was ok, and no complaints about nekked Brad and that Aussie dude (Orlando looks too much like a little boy to be my style), but it was just so..... Hollywood. I can't describe it, but I wouldn't put it in the 'good' category! It was alright to watch with nothing better to do, but.....

revision, eh ... ?!? :chin: :p
Aye, 'tis a good film. Something for everyone really I suppose, as Brad Pitt is there with his beefcake body for the ladies, and the blokes have, umm, lots of fights and stuff. Yes.

it was alright.
although, being of greek descent, i've had these stories told to me a gagabillion times and the amount of inaccuracies in the movie were horendous.

Yeah I thought that too. Pitt annoyed me to no end too. Tis all about the Eric Bana. The fittest man in that film. Oh yes.

Before i watched the movie, i had my reservations on Pitt's acting skills. OK we know why he was casted, but surely they could've found someone handsome and more Greek-looking.

I haven't seen it yet, but I plan to in this week. I'm afraid that (as butterfly said) it will be too hollywoodised to be good. I heard the scenario is quite far from the real story, and a couple of characters that would be interesting to see (like Cassandra) aren't there. What also annoys me is that they describe it as an adaptation of Iliad, while for example the trojan horse wasn't in that.
I plan to see it on Wednesday onthe Orange buy one get one free deal

Dunno, epic films don't really agree with me.
My mate went to see it, and apparently the girl Achillies shags is hot :thumb:

Reminds me of Passion of the Christ - so blimmin' inaccurate it was hilarious, and the fact that they attempted (completely unnecessarily) to speak a language which is impossible to speak correctly as the right pronunciation has never been figured out...... Sorry, pet bug of mine!

i went to see it with my mum and she sat next to me complaining that it wasn't a proper adaptation of the the Illad but then at the end it came up as "inspired by the Illad" but the film was fantasic and eric bana brad pitt and orlando bloom looked fit as did sean bean. the graphics on the cg wasn't matix like but better more real. i hope that they do the oddyessy as sean bean played odesseus and it work make a good film. as there are only a few good epic films to compare troy with it ranks high in my list. :p

saw it yesterday.....
acting is good, the fight sceans fantasic, story is dubious - but hey its all legend anyway!.....
my only major gripe? FAR TOOO LONG! could have creamed a good 45mins off it and it would have been better. Suggest they cut the long music, slow mass fight secenes! no need!

I didn't think this at all. The film did not seem long to me.

errmmm thats meant to be the point?!?
Orlando allways thinks he is doing the right thing, the brave thing, the way to becoming a hero and making people proud of him...... but......
the whole point of Achilles being a hero, means that it is his destiny that he must die......

I've just been to see it. Many, many incosistences, the greatest of which were (A few spoilers follow):
Achilles was dead long before the idea of the horse came up. The horse wasn't in Iliad.
Agamemnon was killed by his wife back in his country. There's a whole story about Orestis, his son, who killed his mother for that.
The Trojans were as much greeks as the rest of the people.
The whole story about Achilles and Bri-however-you-write-that's love was bullshit. Her role ended when Agamemnon took her from Achilles.
Paris and Helen escaping? Bah!
Also, I didn't like the absense of Cassandra. She would've been an intersting character, ans she would add to the drama.
But a good film otherwise. I liked it much. Right now I'm listening to "And then there was silence", a song about the trojan war.

.
Sorry but I don't think that this kind of big-budget film is the kind of thing that you can sit and pick apart if you want to enjoy it.
They are hardly going to have a story about Troy without making use of Achillies and the horse, and it's only going to be based on the original workings, not a faithful reproduction, because the director is going to want to mould the story in whatever way works for him.
I thought it was good fun. Yes.

Is it true that they've written out the whole gay love interest so as not to offend the American market?
There wasn't anything like that in the movie, but I don't remember anything like it in the Iliad either.

But surely most people would know that Achille's dies? I mean, Achille's heel anyone? Would probably be better reading it though.

Yeah, but he got killed by Orlando Bloom? Kinda ruins the storyline as you know he eventually dies because of him, innit.

It's classical literature. The are loads of different stories about different mythological characters.

if you read the end of the film it said INSPIRED BY THE ILLIAD not a complete adaptation of the book. and the horse was in the illiad at the end becuase it was at the very beginning of the oddasessy which is a better story anyway. i know this becuase my mum has studied both books for her degree at university and i read them both at age 11!!!!!!!!! the trojans were older than the greeks and were related to the greeks and the amazonias (ancient asian tribes from india). the trojans were what the greeks orginated from.
