No . . . not something for entertainment!

They are without doubt the biggest collection of talentless crap I have ever seen! Honest to fucking god Its even better than starship troopers!

Is this really entertainment for the nation? Not just the awards but soaps? They are so unbelievably crap that a part of me has died inside watching a montage of their supposed 'best bits.' Have our lives become so unbearably dull that we the actions of dirty den are the highlights of our week?

Or have soaps got an upside I've missed?

I watch Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Neighbours; but if I'm honest, I only watch Neighbours 'cause well, I always have and I want to know what's going on. :p

But I don't think the people are talentless by any means! There are some really good actors/actresses in some of the soaps.

I've never really watched a soap so I wouldn't know if its talentless or not. But of what I've seen they are just the dumbest boringest pointless bit of shit on tv. Granted daytime tv sucks but I'd rather sit and watch a blank screan then watching some show about jons brothers sisters cousins boyfriend who is also jons cousins mothers brother and somebody got one of them pregnant who it may be katies fathers brothers gay lovers sisters dogs previous owners brother.

I watch Hollyoaks and Neighbours as well and on occassion East Enders but more as you say out of some wierd addiction - I don't enjoy it but there's nothing else on so i sort of just find myself watching it!

Which characters would you say are actually well acted? I can think of none in all of the soaps we've both said we watch that I haven't laughed at at one time or another!

Why do you think it is you find yourself watching them? Enjoyment or the sort of twisted curiosity that makes you slow down at a car accident to try and see what happened?

well, like i say...neighbours 'cause it's the programme i've watched for aslong as i can remember! but most of the characters have changed now and so i don't think i'd be too bothered if i couldn't watch it. it's more routine aswell - like i sit eating my tea at the table with neighbours on.

i watch the other 2 'cause i like them. :)

Hmm...*thinks*...they take up err....7 hours a week for me. That's if I watch every episode every day (only the evening neighbours one :p ).

Even Hollyoaks with its wooden acting and wall to wall fit people, ignoring the mums and the ginger girl?

Soaps are shite except for Hollyoaks ...it's the funiest of the lot and doesn't take itself too seriously. ... and  it there are fit ladies in it.

I reckon one of the kiddie actors should have one something. That Chesney kid is an excellent actor.

No because my question was on society just originating from the popularity of soaps.

Admittedly Hollyoaks is amusing but at the same time the way they flog some story lines like dead horses is just irritating - like the Dan/Serial Killer friend/sister etc story.

Soap Operas are what people have instead of friends and a social life.

I used to watch a couple of soap operas (at different times), but I eventually stopped. Although I didn't think they were crap, I actually watched the first for its humour (it had a lot) and the second one for the common occasion where one of the female protagonists was nak....
Erm, what's new? :p

If Kat Slater wins sexiest female again I'm going to go insane!
