I can't find any superlatives good enough to describe just what a wonderfful show Clapton puts on, and just how brilliant he is at playing a guitar.
You can keep your Jimi Hendrix, piss-poor cover artist that he was, you can keep your Jim Morrison, and you can burn shite like Axl Rose and Van Halen. Clapton is the best guitar player the world has ever seen, and probably will ever see.
End of discussion.

Pic didn't work so I'll post again. Eric Clapton was the reason I picked up the guitar. He's the most soulful player I've ever seen. I've been to gigs by all the big names and the only people to come close to EC were Satch and Gary Moore. They were still miles behind.
Best player on the planet.

The acoustic fingerpicking guy? I've only seen one video and, I must admit, I was  but it doesn't move me the same as EC's playing. But that's just me.

Since when were Jim Morrison or Axl Rose guitarists?
like i just said in another of your blasphemous posts
Hendrix > Jesus > Clapton
Clapton played guitar well, but Hendrix played, humped, rattled and fucked it better. End of Discussion. I hope i need never hear you blaspheme against Jimi again.
Heathen.

I saw him at a special Ferrari event concert thingy in 2002 on the same day that I passed my driving test (not that the driving test has anything to do with it, just thought I put that in for the sake of being random).
It rained lots, there was a free bar and somebody mistook me and my Dad as a married couple
Eric was pretty good :D

Jimmy Page is better than Clapton.

Hmmmm. As a producer certainly. As a composer and arranger almost as good. But not as a guitar player. The only person on par with Clapton is Eric Johnson.

On acoustic or electric, as a songwriter and producer, Page is superior to Clapton. Hugely influential and innovative.
Perhaps you're blinkered by your main influence but Jimmy Page was untouchable as a guitarist for a long period in the 70s. Even as a session guitarist before his Zepp days Page was in huge demand and playing on songs that you know but didn't know he had input into.
I really like Eric Clapton and some of his music, especially Unplugged, is nothing short of genius. But he was definitely the second best guitarist in the Yardbirds ;)

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Jimmy Page is a great player, definitley top 10 material. I like Eric, you like Jimmy and there's no way we're going to convince each other. Although I'll concede that EC could never have carried off the dragon suit. :D
p.s The yardbirds guitarists rate as Eric Clapton > Jeff Beck > Jimmy Page :p

I can see myself getting a lot of stick for this opinion (whoa!, crazy!) but I think that Santana can only be beated by Hendrix, and no one else.

Depends what era of Santana you're talking about. His recent stuff is dire compared to the Abraxas era. If you buy the Crossroads two boxset there's a 26 minute jam between him and Eric Clapton.
Oh and Clapton> God> Eric Johnson> SRV> Hendrix. And that's being generous to Hendrix.

For the ability on the guitar, it has to be jimi hendrix, but for making good music is another question entirely - claptons up there, I think Brian May should be up there somewhere aswell, slash also

I went to see clapton last night as my friend had a free ticket. To be honest, I couldn't remember many songs of his off the top of my head but he was so great. I loved all his guitar solos and he had such a huge amount of energy. His band was also really good, especially one of the keyboard players.
