I'd really like to get a tattoo but I know I'm going to be totally anal over what and where it is. I'd rather have a custom one than a flash one, but before I start to design it, I need inspiration for concepts etc. Any ideas?

please dont be offended by this...but is there any other way to be about a new tattoo besides "totally anal" ?
i know i probably sound like sumones mum, but your stuck with it once its on you....but truer words have never been said.

pick a design that means sumthing to you or reminds you of sumwhere/sumthing/sumone....a design that just looks pretty might not look so pretty in 20 years time...but sumthing that means sumthing will mean sumthing always.

ok im done preaching. lol

Peace

no, because a tattoo should mean something to you...your ideas...its going to be on you FOREVER. Dont just go and pick some shit off the wall that everyone and their friend has. Whats the point in that? Although you did say youre going to design it, but still...rarr to that!

there must be some sort of symbol or word that has meaning to you, or at least you just super super like...? :)

Yeah no I know, I'm not going to pick a design because someone on here said 'ooh, that'd look good', I just hoped for some possible starting points to use as inspiration.

a 'personal' tattoo is exactly that, personal, it's nothing to do with what other people like, it's not about needing inspiration, you yourself should know what you want... it's about you, what you like and what means anything to you.

therefore nobody can truly help you.

me for example, biking is a big part of my life, it helps me get away and lets me both enjoy and scare myself... i couldn't do this without mechanical excellence, so to me, this would be a tattoo:

I still love my tattoo four years after I got it - and I had been looking into it and thinking about it for about 8 years before I got it. Mine is a tribalised dragon design that I designed with the help of the tattoo artist who did it for me. My Chinese star sign is the dragon, and I got it done in time for the big "Year of the Dragon" Chinese New Year celebrations in Sydney so it does mean a lot to me.

I'd say that you really have to think carefully about something that means a lot to you, and make sure you're not mistaking that with something that you just think is cool - a couple of my friends have done that and regretted it later. The problem with tattoos is that they're addictive; ever since I got the last one, I've been thinking about how to get it extended or maybe having a Maori design done. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would do either - if you've had wax treatments you should be able to take it no probs... :D

Thats cos I love football especially forest and england. So what stuff do you like, intrests and hobbies and stuff. Think hard were your gonna have it aswell! Do you want it to be on display all the time?? ect . . !! Go for it!

What I did for my tat design, was thought of exactly what I wanted, then searched on Google images, for pictures of anything similar to what I'd thought of...

I then used Paint to put it all together and voilá, a basic *very rough* tat design.

Then all you do is take it to a tattooist, and ask 'em to have a doodle and see what they come up with :D

Name tattoo's, generally aren't classy or tasteful...

They're tacky now, and always will be... (no offence, it is just my opinion!)

Don't go for names. Having someone's name on you is tacky. Others see it as tacky too - even those who have tattoos. You won't get good reactions with the either.

I was going to get my fiancee's name tattoo'd on me but I've never really liked name tattoos and thought it would look stupid if I ever split up with him.

His nickname's Silent Bob and I LOVE Kevin Smith films so I got a cartoon of, surprise surprise, Silent Bob! I love it, he loves it, it's all good!
my other 2 are merged into one big one and they mean something to me, they represent me now and it means I'll never forget who I was when Im older.

I had my first tattoo on my wall for 6 months before I got it done. I reconed if I didn't get fed up staring at it for that long then I wouldn't get fed up with it when I had it done.

If you have any doubts about getting it done, don't!

Also, get it somewhere that it can be hidden easily if you want.
Mine are all on my back so when I shove a t-shirt on...no tattoos! but if I want them on show I just wear a strappy top.
I got them done for me so I don't usually make a point of them showing. It's good to have the choice :)
(plus it means I can hide them from my parents! hehe)

Chinese symbol of Taylor? Tribal design in the shape of a T?
Something that reminds you of him?
I can't think of anymore...
