View Full Version : Fashion Victim or Individual?

Do you follow fashion like a Louis Vuitton wearing, Burberry bag holding sheep or do you prefer to keep your style a little bit unique?

I find that a majority of girls and boys in my area are obsessed with labels. Why?! WHY?! Shaamooon TopShop!

Personally I prefer the latter as I despise to look like everyone else. Although, I do look through the glossies and notice a few pieces but its not very often that I admire the *whole* outfit.

Gimme retro, gimme vintage, gimme gimme gimme!

I'm totally addicted to www.retrorebels.com at the moment, I need to pay off my credit card just so I can max it out again!

tricky one, actually.

i'm definitely not a fashion victim, but i don't know how individual i am. i wear what i like, but it's not especially kooky or different, or anything.

my wardrobe consist mainly of baggy trousers, tight tshirts, zip-up tops and comfy trainers.

i have leanings towards the individual - i make a lot of my own clothes, customise some, and buy a lot of my clothes on ebay, or in charity shops.

but then on other days i can be head to toe high street. i love the fifties stuff in H&M atm, and the seventies stuff in topshop. only i'll probably be wearing my tennis tops, flares and waitress dresses long after they go out of fashion. it doesn't bother me.

i'm not one for designer labels though, or even high-end high street. my only nod to that is my diesel watch and hugo boss perfume. i wouldn't buy clothes that were designer. i'd rather make my own.

I was into the whole 'individual' thing, as in wearing weird stuff, long socks, big boots, etc... I would like to point out this was BEFORE it got cool for 12 year olds to dress like this.

But at the mo I'm into looking trendy. Fasionable stuff preferably or jeans when I can't really be bothered.

At the same time I still think of myself as an individual because like Kaffrin, I have a wide mix of styles in my wardrobe and I don't force myself to be a fashion queen. I wear what I want rather than sticking rigidly to one thing and as such I class myself as possibly more unique than people who always wear the same. One of my friends told me the other day that I 'didn't look like I liked metal any more' because I was dressed trendy. That pissed me off.

Ah that gets on my nerves too.

When my Ex first met me he mentioned that he thought I looked like a stuck up skater chick. I'm not stuck up and I dont skate.

But anywhoos, its seems to me that nowadays your dress sense depicts your taste in music, as your friend said, cos you had a trendy outfit, apparently you don't like metal music.

One day Im wearing a skirt and heels and dancing to Beyonce, the next Im wearing baggies and trainers listening to Disturbed. I find no relation to music and clothes whatsoever.

Pish!

im not a fashion victim although i do like some stuff thats fashionable - its bound to happen sometimes but i wont wear something because its trendy, more like ill wear it despite whether its trendy or not. Ive always dressed a bit kooky, and was picked on for it at school - I just could never dress like the other kids at my school. I wouldnt say it was individual though as i wasnt the only one, I wanted to be part of the indiekid group (bear in mind this was late 80s early 90s so it was still very much in the minority for people to dress that way especially in my council estate comprehensive where they all dressed in shell suits.) Ive been through phases of flourescent hair, spiky and even shaved off completely.Nowadays I just dress the way I want to dress, its nothing spectacular or particularly alternative looking but its never been smart or conservative. Dont have any favourite labels, apart from tescos value range :p

i wear things that are in fashion because that is what is avaliable to me on the high street. labels don't impress me but if i really like something then i will pay that bit extra, especially for jeans and bags.
i'm definitly not a fashion victim and wouldn't wear it just because it says to in the magazines. i'm more of a tight hipster jeans and vest top girl anyway.

oh, and wtf is it with all the la di da female students at my uni wearing a bundle of scarf around their neck every day? they usually have their hair in a scruffy ponytail too. its like theyre members of a club or something!

I like to wear things I like, not just copy other people. Some of the things that are in fashion I love, other stuff I think is awful. I'm not hugely individual; I haven't got much stuff that's that much out of the norm but want to wear what I like the look of and feel comfortable in. I have hardly anything "designer". I don't choose my wardrobe by what's "in" and what's not.

Aye, the goths always seem surprised when I turn round n know more about metal than they do

Anyway, I mainly stick to the labels, but because I like them, not because they're in fashion. Oh, and I've never once worn Burberry :p

Though in saying that, I like to try n keep it unique as possible at the same time. I've hardly seen anyone wearing the same stuff I do, and never in the same way :E

Btw - all these dumbass 'alternative' types who seem to think they're so different from the rest of us by letting us know what music they listen to through the clothes they wear. Surely it'd be more alternative to dress like a ned and listen to death metal, or dress like a goth and listen to happy-hardcore? :/

Aah that reminded me! What the FUCK were those trucker hats all about!? Who actually wanted to look like inbred, redneck trailer trash?

I swear to God the people that wore those just 'cause they were in style were dumbasses.

i dont like to think of myself as a fashion victem though i'm sure alot of people on here would. it matters not what the fashion is, i will be wearing my jeans and my tshirts and my zip up hoodies or leather jacket over it. most of my friends and people i hang out with have pretty much the same lazy relaxed style so its all good.

I wanted one of those hats, but I refused to get one solely for the fact that they were in 'fashion' and every cunt and his dog had one.

What Kaff said.

I love charity shops because I can get something that little bit different but I don't go out of my way to look abnormal!

Well I suppose I am a fashion victim...I do like labels and whats in all the magazines etc. But I don't wear something just because it's fashionable or everyone else is wearing it, I have to actually like it! Also as soon as everyone starts wearing something I go off it :p

If its red or black and i like it i'll but it. I dont care if its fashion, a label or whatever.
People always have trouble putting me into a steriotype because i dress so strangly. I dont look weird or anything, but one day i'll look like a goth (though i dont go for the whole white make up i just wear alot of black) and the next a trendy.
I used to go out of my way to look different but that got old fast.

I find it hard enough to find clothes to fit me so it certainly doesnt bother me whether they come from tesco or ted baker. If something fits and i think that it suits me then i'll buy it. I don't go in for following fashion or trying to be an "individual". You know when something is comfortable or makes the best of what you have and i don't see the point in being worried about wearing it just because it comes from a charity shop or something.

I wear what's fashionable and 'in', but I wouldn't say I'm a fashion victim. I wear the clothes because I like them, and I often customise bits and pieces. I wouldn't buy a top just because its Dolce and Gabbana, and I wouldnt buy a top just because its from TopShop. In saying that, alot of my clothes are from Topshop, because I like the clothes. I pay extra for Designer labels, especially for Jeans, bags, and shoes, but again, thats for my own choice. I wouldn't buy something just because its a certain make, or because I read it somewhere it would make me 'cool', or even because everyone else has it. Infact, if everyone else does have it, I usually try to avoid buying it. I like to look a bit different, and have a more unique wardrobe, 'coz I hate everyone else having the same as me.

i wonder what the sudden interest in everyones individuality is....seems to be a new thread about it everyday.

i wont be ignorant enough to say that the way i dres sis unlike anyone in history before me, but im comfy with it so....who cares....if you see me in the street in my baggy jeans and my offspring hoody you instantly think "oh, another stoopid mosher who thinks he sindividual for wearing a band on his hoody"....what im thinkin is "i love this comfy hoody and its my only jacket....and oooh arent my jeans comfy.....hehe they make a silly swoosh noise when i jump"....
individuality is nothing to do with your clothes people, its all in your head, where it belongs.

Peace
