Lukesh and other newbies, let me give you some tips because I sincerely believe we need some more right-wingers and conservatives on this board.

My political views are to the left but I never draw my sources from the Daily Mirror as within a political debating forum I know tabloids are never taken seriously due to the fact they are not that serious papers.

If you wish to use a right wing source, The Times and The Telegraph are the best UK newspaper sources. Other than that the BBC is considered as a good source.

The other option is to use google to research and back up your facts with a credible source as I did with my post in the 'Prisons' thread. It took me two or three minutes to find that source all I did was enter the keywords 'Prisoners UK TV Licences' hey presto!

However you do not need to produce a source if you are expressing an opinion as opposed to stating a fact.
Theres nothing wrong with saying something you believe in but you will be challenged if you make a strong statement as a fact.

Hope this helps.

(Other regulars/Mods on these boards please add your tips or suggestions but please no personal flaming or sarcasm as this thread is to encourage newbies, you know dull it gets when we all have the same opinion)

Hell, newbies are always welcome so long as they are intelligent enough to listen to what people are saying, and humble enough to disagree without using the c-word.

Might educate a few of them yet:)

It's about 50/50.
However most here are open to persuasion or at least a good debate.
If you want blind rhetoric goto Urban75.com they think everything involving the use of money in exchange for goods or services is heresy.

I'm Middle Way, agree with right wingers on the police and military and how to teach kids to behave, but left wingers on immigration, NHS and schools.

That's up to you, I'm not too bothered if 0.3% of the population were born elsewhere.
Give it a couple of generations and they'll be as British as the rest of us.

Just goes to show you're never actually read it. Just going for the typical knee jerk response. Kind of proves my point on the other thread about rightwingers.
U75 runs the whole gamut from anarchists and Marxists to Liberal Democrats, liberals, Tories and hard right neo-liberals. But its slant is left, just like the slant on here is right.

Perhaps those leaning left think the boards are right-leaning, and viceversa.

I for one think the boards are right leaning. In particular regarding immigration issues, and especially when you consider the immense majority of users are teenagers or people in their early twenties. If anything you would have thought that young people are mostly free of the prejudice that affects so many old folks...

I've always thought that the general slant on these boards was left. That's quite interesting. There are right wing posters, but most of the major posters are left, as are the mods I suspect.

Definintely a right wing slant, when it comes to immigration, race and law and order.

As for myself... I dunno, a sort of eco-socialist type person? Green all the way man ;) Not that it ever shows in any of my posts.

Errrr...I do know. I lived in Birmingham for 10 years, I have friends who work with asylum seekers, I've even known some socially.
I've also lived in Sheffield, Wolverhampton and Brighton, so I think I've had a bit of experience of different places.
I currently live in the London Borough of Lambeth, one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the country, so I do know, thanks.

I realise that the government haven't always handled the dispersion of asylum seekers in the best way. They have a habit of resettling them in deprived working class areas and stretching already underfunded resources. But this is nothing to do with asylum seekers per se more to do with a classic divide and rule policy.
The far right and some sections of the media then stir this up into a race issue, when its not really. Its a class issue.

I replied people don't want anyone to go. What they would like is to see the back of comments that are sweeping generalisations that are not backed up.

No one has said he should go. No one has said they hate him.

But if would be nice for him to either provide evidence that (for instance) the Guardian is "anti-English" or to admit he was wrong about that.

Couldn't be simpler.

Hi Lukesh!
This board is really strongly left-leaning-- because of efforts of guys like Aladdin. A newbie with right-wing opinions especially if he is young is welcomed with series of insults that effectively kicks him out of the board. I’m watching this game for some time and I have to admit it works.
Trust yourself don’t be a whine victim don’t listen to anybody’s advises ( including mine :)) and everything will be ok.

I don't know why I was wound up by this when every single thing you said was true.

Stoke is still Britain's ugliest town - that's official folks. Well, no, it was a poll in a tabloid. Hang on, I think a tabloid was right for once. Woah.

Oh, and as an expert on England's shitehole, lukesh lives in an area with a BNP councillour.

BNP came 1st in 1 place in stoke and came 2nd in 5 places and 3rd in one other.

Stoke has a repututation but it will imporve, hopefully.

It means nothing to me. I'm not accusing you of being a raving Nazi, but you appear to have an opinion a bit further right than your regular centre-right conservative voter like Whowhere.

I only swear at people if they state racist bigoted opinions, refuse to back up their assertions with sensible sources or attack me first.
And yes, I might tell people they are wrong. They can then tell me why they are right. Thats debate that is. Deal with it.
Oh, and who did I tell "hey need tablets etc"?

Who did I tell "hey need tablets etc"? You can't just make unfounded accusations against people.

Back it up or retract it.

Oh dear

lukesh, you may find your life is a bit easier on these boards if you keep two things in mind - debate is about the exchange of ideas and opinions, so if you post an opinion you can expect someone else to post theirs, opposing or agreeing with you.

Secondly, there is no need to take it personally if someone disagrees with your opinion or idea. People don't hate you, they just disagree with your idea.

As for the rest of you, listen to GWST, for she is wise.

THERE IS NO NEED TO GET SO PERSONAL!!! GROW UP, YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!!

*Stops shouting and stomps off*

I'm not blaming you I'm telling you (again) that you can't expect to make statements without backing them up. People just want to know why you think the way you do, and 'I just know, OK' is not good enough!!

God, was PNJ ever this much trouble???

PNJ was a challenge to be sure but at least he eventually began to comprehend that perhaps he did have alot yet to learn about taking issues at face value or merely accepting the corporate media spin as fact.
