Sky 1 last night, premierships 10 greatest footballers.
Good programme did anyone watch it? (if you did then don't cheat in this thread :p )
Right, list your 10 greatest PREMIERSHIP players and after a while I will list the order in which they had it on the tv. The one on tv was voted by the fans, not managers etc..
Over to you......

Current List
Alan Shearer
Eric Cantona
Ian Wright
Theirry Henry
Gianfranco Zola
Roy Keane
Peter Schmeichel
Dennis Bergkamp
Ryan Giggs
Patrick Vieira
Has to be one of these, can't think of anyone else worthy.
Robbie Fowler
Stan Collymore
Matt Le Tissier
The player to come off the list is either Vieira or Henry?

Lose Ian Wright...
I could actually see Le Tiss in there...
Or Jurgen...
No defenders though...?

Maybe, maybe, class act in my opinon.
Like it said on the programme, Leeds won the title with cantona, he move to Man U and then they won the title. A coincidence?? I think it is a little more than coincidence. Best buy in the last 20yrs???

Fergie has said before that he brought new attitudes to training like staying behind after practicing moves etc I imagine he did the same thing at Leeds although they do it everyday at United now.
Best buy last 20 yrs? Not sure, Fergie has signed three players who could have a claim to this. Cantona, Irwin, Solskjaer. All three bought for small amounts compared to the service they gave/give to the club.
Personally I think Cantona was the catalyst for our sucess, I wonder if it would have been possible without him?

I wouldn't have Le Tissier or Ian Wright in that list, really- Fowler has done more than Wright and Paul Scholes is approximately 97 times better than Le Tiss.

I'm surprised you didn't have Schmeichel on that list too.

I'm talking class-money, not money-service. Irwin and Solskjaer don't even come close.

Fowler was good for how many years?? Scholes has only just really become one of the best premiership midfielders. This list is about the Premiership Greats. Scholes WILL be on the list in years to come if he carries on playing like he is. Fowler on the other hand will never be on the list if he carries on playing like he is.
The way your thinking of it is the players of today, if it was like that you would have Beckham, Owen, Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, RvN and quite a few others on the list. They may all very well be on the list in years to come but none of them are premiership greats at the moment. Beckham obviously will never be unless he returns to England.

Shearer is rightly top, Cantona didn't play for long enough.
plus he's fan Kicking filth!
Fowler would be there if he hadn't been pants these last few years.

I agree with all your points here. I didn't expect to see cantona on there for the same reason but he is a class act and even though he is a karate kicking scum bag he is one of the true great players to grace the premiership stage.

No he doesn't deserve to be in the list, agreed, too young and inexperienced for this list.
Smithy 4 england however is NOT a stupid suggestion. I have mates who are Hudders Town fans (as sum of u know) who hate Leeds but the ones who know about football all say he should be in the England team. He would be a much better partner for Owen than Rooney is. Owen and Rooney have too similar qualities, Smithy is a different kind of player who would compliment owen massively.

I think Smith could become a very good player, but hes got to cut out the kicking at ankles and the rest of the dirty play.
I wouldn't have the **** at United, but i think he'll end up playing for a good team next season.

:lol:
The Scum could offer Smithy £200,000 a week and he still wouldn't play for you. You need a fighter like Smithy at the moment, Keanes on his last legs and the whole team revovles around him. He would be a great addition to the Scum, not that it will EVER happen.

Me and my mates were trhinking about this the other night-
All time premiership 11, 4-4-2 formation, in terms of class and consistency (oh and team must be compatible as a serious team ie: no henry on left wing etc:)
go on give it a go then ill tell ya mine

Henry started out as a left-winger, so he perfectly suited to playing there.
But yes: a Premiership XI (plus 5 subs)
Schmeichel;
Dixon, Adams, Pallister, Irwin;
Beckham, Roy Keane, Vieira, Giggs;
Shearer, Henry
Subs: Seaman, Bruce, Scholes, Van Nistelrooy, Fowler

He's had as many good Premiership years as Ian Wright has, IMHO.

I'm not, people like Pallister, Platt, Merson, Bould- they should all be high up on that list too. As should people like Brian McClair, Andrei Kanchelskis, to be quite honest. And I'm abolsutely flabbergasted that Sheringham wasn't on that list.

I think the problem is trying to fit these players into 10 of the best, you could easily have 20 fantastic players.

Aye, for every name that should have been on it one would have to be dropped from the list. Making lists like this is pointles normally- look at what an arse Pele made of it :lol:

We all start out as left-wingers, but over time we become more central in our approach ;)
Schmeichel;
Dixon, Adams, Pallister, Irwin;
Beckham, Roy Keane, Vieira, Giggs;
Shearer, Henry
Subs: Seaman, Bruce, Scholes, Van Nistelrooy, Fowler
Can't find much fault in that team really, although I wouldn't have Fowler on the bench, I'd have Solksjaer... and I'd have to find room for Cantona...

Thought about this last night, and I've found room for him in this team...
Schmeichel
Neville (G), Stam, Pallister, Irwin
Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Giggs
Cantona, van Nistelrooy.
Subs: Howard, Bruce, Ince, Hughes, Solksjaer.
Would compare with any other "best of the Prem" team...

Aye- but where? Vieira, Keane and Giggs are better than him. Beckham would have to be replaced, but only because he's only been around a couple of years.
