Who has seen that advert yet?

The one with the arteries, of a smoker. They squeeze them and white, gooey fatty stuff comes out! It is revolting.

It made me feel physically sick, i was urging for 3-4 minutes. I do not smoke but surely if it made me feel that bad it cannot be good.

I know several people who smoked and if they saw the adert it wouldnt put them off smoking, so what is the point?

To stop someone starting in the first place ?

A young, impressionable teenager seeing that, if its as bad as you say could stop them from even starting.

I hope they keep showing it and maybe it will stop people.

the trouble with nicotine addiction is that all the horror stories in the world have minimal effect. like becky says it's possibly a good one to put people off starting.
as far as stopping is concerned ...i'm going to do it this year.
...and the most interesting bit of help and advice so far has been byny. i read an extract of the book and interview with the author int hte gurdian or observer at the weekend.
i'm going for it any time soon.
seeing as i'm in to weed ...i'll have to start eating it as often as i eat my words.

Excuse me ignorant foreigner who I am for breaking into the conversation.
But I know ‘Gold Rule’ about ads.
If something is advertised by private companies, independent groups and organisations, including corporations, scientists, activists and so on- it may be true and may be false.
But all ads made by government or govt-controlled companies or govt- controlled “scientists” ( guys who sold their science ( and their conscience) for government’s subsidies, grants, scholarships, dean places, ( not speaking about Government’s advisors!), expensive equipment, and other forms of ’support our science!’ ) are ALWAYS false.
So don’t trust those smoking horrors. I have no idea whether they are true or false. But knowing what State is… 99/1 they are false.

The advert states that a certain amount of fat was found in the arteries of a heavy smoker. I guess the question is whether cigarettes were the main cause for such accumulation of fat, but I generally believe the doctors and government on such issues.

However there is the danger of overdoing the whole thing. These new big font doom messages on fag packs have caused more amusement than alarm.

The night after I watched that ad for the first time I had a bizarre if slightly sickening dream. I dreamt a spot had appeared on my leg, and when I popped it to get rid of the white head an incredible amount of fat/pus came out of it, hitting my face and everything and forming a small mountain on the floor big enough to fill a bucket. :D

Good job I don't smoke.

the big warnings on fag packets are brilliant, why don't they just write '' you're fucked now'' or ''write your will''. i think a better way of deterring potential smokers would be to highlight the financial implications of smoking, not just the actual cost, but also the proportion of tax which fills gordon brown's pockets every time you light up.

When I was a smoker - if an scary anti smoking ad came on I turned over. I think most smokers are very good at ignoring the obvious. I mean, even if they put 50p on a pack of fags and covered the whole of the packet with warnings people would still buy them.

If you are hoodwinked into having your first one then you can be hoodwinked completely.

Me too! that advert made me feel sick. I saw a mate today, he is giving up smoking a 24 hour packet of patches cost him £17.95. Not really going to persuade someone to give up is it? Still in boots spend £15 and get a £5 voucher, well i had to have it didnt i? ;)

Not really if they want more people to give up £17.95 is a lot, he has had 9 days of it so far and still getting cravings! in total that is £161.55 spent on giving up smoking! in that amount of time it is cheaper to buy fags!

Well As a smoker myself, I can tell you Im fully aware of the repercussions it has on my lungs (black as tar pitch no doubt) but as has been said previously, its not going to convince me to stop.

Of course, neither would i blame the tobacco companies like many of my countrymen have done to make a fast buck for their stupidity. If i die, its my own fault, noone elses.

I didn't understand the irst paragraph.
Seems as if some words (or half sentances), are missing.

Thank you.
Though I don't understand the "had to have it", what's that connected to?

You can get patches on prescription now, I beleive on one prescription you can get a months supply, so for the price of a prescription its well worth it.

Jacq what she means is in Boots the Chemist if you spend £15 in one transaction you will receive a voucher for £5 off the next thing you buy..........I think :D

Excuse me for not understanding what's being written. And obviously I am not the only one who doesn't.

Careful MT, they may just complain that you didn't start the sentence with a capital letter, England also begins with a capital letter.

We really do not want to cause any confusion, do we?

Get a grip.
If you start a discussion, do you then expect people to answer if they don't understand what's written?

Both Aspartame and BeckyBoo like me stated that they weren't sure of what was meant. So obviously I am not the only imbecile here.
