Since I've started at college and I have a lot of work to do, and can't use my computer a lot of the time when I get home, I've decided to get a laptop to keep most of my stuff on. Also considering my computer's pretty shitty all-round, I really need something to play games, keep files and generally be capable of anything.
I'm currently stuck between 2 different laptops, but if someone could give me any other suggestions they would be gladly received. Here are my current favourites:
Iridium S520 (http://uk.special.reserve.co.uk/q_GG9902_iridium_s520_ce_20.html) - Which is £700, and you get a free mouse and carry case with it.
Or
EI Systems 4404 (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1374583810.106537583 6@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfadcjhilleddcflgceggdhhmdfho.0&page=Product&sku=972185&category_oid=-15257) - Which is £100 less.
I really can't decide which to go for, and my financial situation isn't too good at the moment. I have about £700 to spend maximum, or I will have that amount pretty soon.
So any suggestions?

Laptops are damned useful things to have for college and Uni. Often you find you can't get to a computer you need, with the software you need, when you need to. Then it isn't set up the way you like, and it just slows you down. Having your own laptop computer, with your files, your software, and set up the way you like, can be a great boon to helping you get work done. I wish I'd had one, and if I go back I'll make sure I have one when I do!
I was constantly stumped by the computers, and software available on them, and their setups. Sometimes there were only a couple of rooms in the whole Uni with the software I needed, but coulnd't get to them between lectures and seminars because the rooms were in use for seminars. I wasted so much time unable to do what I wanted to because of that, and lived too far away to make a journey home worthwhile. Everything I wanted was on my computer at home. It was a right pain in the arse. If I'd had my own machine then I could've been doing some truly useful and constructive work while stuck there.

Multivision (www.multivision.co.uk) offer very decent prices for decent specced laptops.
The first one look sgood apart from the 128MB of RAM is a bit low considering the rest of the spec. A Laptop of that spec should have at least 256MB of RAM.
Personally I'm not one for brand names except when it comes to Laptops as you're at the mercy of the manufacturer to provide drivers, etc. Sony for instance is very bad at providing drivers for their laptops.!
We upgraded a friend's laptop to windows 2000 and the modem didn't work and no drivers to make it work..
I'd look at this site too:

The nest laptops to play games on are Alienware ones.
http://www.alienware.com or the UK one http://www.alienware.co.uk
Mine cost me £2000, which I bought for uni.
I haven't had a single problem with it and I'm so glad that I shelled out the extra few hundred pounds.
I've had mine for 10 months now.
£2000 for a laptop??
I've seen a new line designed for uni studnts that is going for £350 and has 99% of everything a uni student would need!!
The Alien thing is obvisouly a very specialised piece of kit.
do they sell many?

I'm not sure what their selling capacity is, but they're not a corporate company looking to sell what they can to whoever will give their money away.
The CS is out of this world, as when I needed to do a few specific things in setup, apart from being a freephone number to any dept, they called me and were on the phone for around 2 hours until everything was completed!
Considerin ghow much you spent on the laptop I'm not surprised their customer support is good.
I assume you play a lot of games otherwise £2,000 for a laptop is way overpriced only for uni work.
When I started uni about 10 years ago I paid £1,250 for a 486 Desktop with 14 inch Monitor - I remember the soundcard alone costed £100 and so did the 2 Speed CD ROM Drive ... I only recently paid off the student loans that I used to buy that PC ... now it seem dumb to have paid so much but back then that's what PC's costed..
