Question....

Ive been thinking of getting myself a TFT montior for a while, I work with pc's and stuff so i know a little bit about them, but i am still not 100% sure that they are worth the money..
So i was wondering do any of you have one or know more than i do and do you think they are worth it, Or Not worth it....

Any replies most welcome......

( I have the chance to get a tft from work that was worth £350 and i could now get it for £150 basically from work)

'Tis the reason why i ask really

A year ago they weren't that great. Whenever you scrolled with them, they would show blurry after images. And they always seemed a bit dimmer, and colours weren't as good. Now they're much better. But it's the price.
However, they have advantages. They're more compact, use less power, and generate less heat. They're pretty damned sexy too. Oh, and they don't break your back when you've got to move them - though buying one can break your bank balance. :( Hopefully my 19" CRT monitor will last for a while yet, and by then the 19" TFTs will have come down to a good, affordable, price. But I think it'll be a couple of years before I can afford one.

Strawberry Tart, do you find yours ok for video editing? I mean, don't you find it ghosts a bit? (a problem for watching video, and playing games on TFT's).

Get one with a low response rate, the hitachi TFT's go as low as 16ms on response time which reduces ghosting caused on many TFT screens.
I get a bit of ghosting on my laptop screen when I get fast moving text or when playing games however it's because laptop screens aren't as 'hi-tech' as proper TFT screens for desktop computers.

I prefer the picture from my 19 inch Trintron Monitor to any LCD screen I've seen but the thinnest is what you're paying for with TFT.

If you're getting such a great bargain then buy it and sell it on eBay for a profit!!

Well fancy that looks like i was right, i said to my work mates that after xmas time all the current tt monitors we sell would be discontinued, and so far im being proved right, What i said about the monitor in this thread, i lost out, it got sold off, anyway it was on display and i wasnt to happy bout havin it off display, but just a couple of days ago, the 15" sony tft that was £350 came down to £247, with discount applied, i could have it for £188, not bad me thinks, plus it will be a boxed one id get, Only prob is im stuck in doors with the flu, and dunno how much i got paid on thursday lol

My friend got a 15 inch from Dabs for about £188 - but his spins around so you can have it either portrait or landscape - which is excellent cos you can see an entire sheet of A4 in it's actual size onscreen without the need to scroll.

very nice for typing letters or designing an A4 leaflet

I have a black Iiyama ProLite E380S, I think you can get these for around 200 pounds. It's a fantastic screen, best quality I have ever seen... highly recommended :)

The built in speakers are crap though (like laptop one), but I have external one so it didn't matter :P

Remember though, a 17" CRT only has a viewable screen of around 16". A 15" TFT has a 15" viewable screen... so a 15" screen is great! 19" screens make my eyes hurt, TFT or CRT.
