Ok i want someone to talk to me on irc but they only have access at uni & i was wondering if someone could tell me how she goes about it?
Is the only way to access it, having to download summat? If so, some of you knowing what unis are like, are they likely to let her?
I know i have access but i forget & am too tired to do a search.

Thankyou muchly.

just go to www.mirc.com
download that and install it.
the only thing is, you have to be on the same network (don't have to be on the same server, as long as on the same chat network) and in the same chat room (unless you want to private talk or "whisper"). that you can arrange beforehand.
i've been to uni and been using my fast connection to download stuff off people vie IRC fileservers and also had my own fileserver running. i sent 100 gigs of stuff in one week before and noone noticed. depends how strict the security is at that particular uni. they improve every year as well....
there's no restriction for normal chatting so i doubt you'll have problems. sending excessive amounts of data from one I.P. might not go unnoticed though....(although i got away... so did a few of my mates :D )

I don't want her getting into trouble tho.

IRC=internet relay chat, near-real-time chatting
mIRC is just a microsoft Client (a program) that allows you to do so. there are many different IRC programs for windows and for unix.

she won't get in trouble if she's just chatting. only downloading/uploading files might be restricted.

if you just want to chat, why don't you use Messenger or ICQ?

(if there's a firewall at uni, which there most likely will be, you might have difficulties, but you'll just need to set things up to go through firewall. when i was at uni, i couldn't send files via MSN messenger or ICQ to my mates at home. annoying!)

Cause they have removed it from the computers hence the need for another option.

This (http://www.fr4g.co.uk/thesite/) was the applet set up for #thesite.org on Quakenet.

Send here there, wait for her to join the channel, and just PM her.
