Ok there are some people on here and all over the internet community who are really clever with computers/internet/scripting/everything basically; and was wondering how do you ascend to this level on computer enlightenment?? heh. I'm trying to make this post sound non-sad but it's not working!!!

Are there online resources or did you all just teach yourselves? I know I'm younger than a lot of you but for your age you must have known a lot when you were my age. I want to be a computer guru :(

Some things are through teaching and other stuff through experience.

Although I wouldn't class myself as an expert. I kinda know little bits about lots of stuff.

If your serious about it maybe kinda have one major skill. Be it programming, web, hardware and hone that skill. But also pick up little bits of other stuff (This will happen naturally anyway) which will hopefully braoden your knowledge.

You just learn.

Tbh, there are two types of techy. One is the booksmart type, who know, like, facts, but can't actually work well because they don't see the whole picture, they can't manage solutions because they don't know the how, they only know the what.

The other type is the better, rarer type, who actually understands what is going on, not just the fine detail. You can't be told how to do that, you just either will or wont.

Actually there's a third type working in IT who don't know shit.

Basically if you don't know it by now you are going to struggle anyway.

Well i know a fair enough amount, to be able to use my computer confidently and set up the way i like. When i say confident i mean i know how to do things such as edit the registry for example that basic user maybe wouldnt want to touch.
Anyway what im trying to say is, i acheived this by having an owning my own computers for about years, about 9 to be exact (i remember my old P90 :) )

In order to achieve this "knowledge" i reckon u just need the time to investigate things yourself and understand them your own way, at least thats what ive done.

I mean when u walk in to pc world (on a rare occasion) and the staff try and offer you help and clearly dont have half an idea what they're on about i just laugh.

Anyway, what was the question again? ...

or just go to start>run and type in 'regedit' - always worked for me!

But I don't know what any of it means; and reckon I'd end up fucking up my comp if I tried. I've downloaded registry patches though for individual things...

OK, to edit the default user, what do I do?

Is it:

H_Key Classes root

Current User

Local Machine

Users or

Current Config

Tell us what to do next as well would you?

Stop fucking about with the registry is what I would do next if I were you.

You can fuck up your computer by messing about with it if you do not understand what you are doing, as you clearly don't.

rule of the thumb is, just don't type 'format c:' or 'deltree windows' in dos and you should be fine, also try not to go near /windows directory if you can help it, heh... if you're the curious cat then just don't be stupid and delete anything. :p

jazza, i think you missed the point of my comment.

I was saying I can edit the registry, because I know what im doing.

only if you know what you're doing of course, if you don't then you could get yourself into some serious bother. :p

It's not that hard though is it?

I guess if you didn't know how to reinstall windows?  then you could fuck your computer up?

precisely, it's not hard to do even if you're not the most computer literate person around, this is why i say to avoid doing it at all costs if you aren't entirely sure of what to do after. :)
