I dont know much only what I was advised and that was to get a firewall. I have zone alarm which is free download. If i can set it up and everything then anyone can.

NIS 2003 I've found to be the best out of all of them, offers the best protection and ease of use.
If you're really concerned about security then buy a router with a built in hardware firewall (most if not all routers include firewalls these days) although they're expensive and pretty difficult to set up unless you know what you're doing. :(

Norton internet security is what I would suggest for a beginner to such issues.
It is easy to install and comes with a free virus checker etc - which these days is pretty much essential on most computers.
I think it costs about £19.99 from dixons - maybe cheaper elsewhere now.
I have Norton Internet Security 2002 and its really good. But it expires in 6 days. What should I do? Buy it again or what?

If you bought it retail then it will NOT expire, unless you have downloaded the trial version then this is not possible, the only thing that expires is the ability to use Liveupdate but you can download the updates via Symantecs website anyway.
