It keeps on freezing or resarting

I have a Dell Latitude with a Pentium 2 processor and Windows 98.

Any ideas why?

Heat? What surface you using it on?

Wood, but it does it even if I've just turned it on

could be anything really. :(
more than likely either one of the memory modules has gone dodgy or a lack of power to the machine, are you using it through batteries?

I have the same problem with my laptop, but it only happens when it is very hot, so I guess it is a heat problem.

May be a bug problem or something.

Best take it to a shop to get it fixed or buy a new one.

A lot of laptops will restart when they get too hot. Just prevents melting processors really - no harm done.

When it freezes what happens exactly? Does it just lock up (can't move the mouse etc) or do you get blue screen of death?

Is there any sort of correlation in the times it does it? Like if you've just switched it on for the first time in a while, or you've just done something a bit intensive.

At the moment it could be anything - both hardware and software
