i bought a new camera the other day and it came with a usb lead, but i have no usb ports (old shitty racist computer). so, i looked around and found i have a converter so that the lead can plug in to a ps2 slot. i tried this and couldnt find a way to install the camera (maybe it doesnt work this way?) im using ME. on the camera, when plugged into pc, it comes up with the screen that it does when its plugged in to usb (tried at friends house), but cant access it on the computer. how?
I don't think that will work. Get yourself a cheap USB pci card.

You can try leaving it on and plugged in when you reboot.
But I wouldn't think it'd work.

A USB pci card should work.
Or is it too old for pci? :p

Why is your computer "racist"?

Ebuyer PCI USB cards (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=UFNQcm9kdWN0U2VhcmNoUmVzdWx0cw==&order_col=sell_price&order=ASC)
Yeah just pick one really. Didn't wanna pick out an individual one cos I wasn't sure how many ports you want and all that stuff.
Sorted :D

ps/2 to usb will only work if the device your connecting is compatible with ps/2 port systems to begin with, in your case or in most cases the camera is only usb compliant, therefore it'll only work directly connected with usb 1.1/2.0 ports, which your computer doesn't have. Reason for this is because ps/2 works in a different way to how USB does.
As has been suggested buy a USB PCI card, preferably with USB 2.0 support, they can be gotten pretty cheaply these days either new or from someone on e-bay.
Which operating system do you have? Windows 95 does not like USB.

1. take the other guys advice, a PCI usb card should work fine
2. get rid of ME!! that was a horrible excuse for an operating system... i prefered 98 second edition to ME... ME sucked!

If you want us to help you why don't you post more specific information?? Like the make and model of your current motherboard or at least the basic spec of your machine so we can judge how old it is?
How do you know you motherboard doesn't support USB?
Many motherboards were produced with USB capabilities they just didn't bother to actually put a socket on the motherboard - but you can buy headers for some of these boards.
If you're PC is so old it doesn't have USB then it's probabaly too old to run modern software quickly enough for the average user - for less then £45 you can get a decent all in one motherboard and an AMD Duron processor. Go along to a local computer fair and have a look and talk to the guys there.
