Have you noticed how papers *cough* The Sun *cough* keep refering to football as 'soccer'?
It's annoying. Stuff like...
'Soccer star David Beckham has scored for Real Madrid...'
'The former soccer player.....'

Don't tell me we're gonna start calling our beloved game 'soccer' and instead of fooball?

It would be a shame. Its always been called football. They can't just start calling it by a different name.

Its cause thats what they call it in America, but tbh we invented the game so why the Hell should we change the name for them!!!

I guess that since 'soccer' has fewer letters than 'football' it takes less time to the average S*n reader to finish the sentence. ;)

Soccer comes from the phrase Association Football. It was often called Assoc. Football (to differentiate it from Rugby Football). This then became soccer.

It is an entirely relevant name, and not just something created for dumb Americans and Sun readers.

Agree-

Over here for example football can be classed as Soccer, Gaelic or rugby. Football is kind of the 3 together.

Still call it football myself though-
Its just more defined as being called soccer!

Well if ya want to be technichal- you use your hands to throw the ball, the keeper uses them all the time....

Same prinicipal kicking the ball upfield (with your foot)to score a goal- more a less.

It is what it is and no Joe Soap like you can change it so just accept it-

Football over here can mean
*league
*union
*rules
*or soccer.

I don't see the big deal about football being called soccer, but then again, i'm an aussie.
