Rupert Everett, Ben Chapman, Pierce Brosnan?? (although technically, I know he`s Irish. But we`ve adopted him!)

Where DOES this idea come from that we all have bad teeth?!?!

Well I suppose they have to stereotype us in such a way that you Americans understand what the character is supposed to be. It`s the same with Americans on British shows.

would it be correct of me to assume that americans are portrayed poorly in british films?

Well it would be correct of you to assume that they`re almost always selected from a range of stereotypes.

Fat tourists in plaid with huge cameras, loud and boorish, fanatical bible bashing tv evangelists, ladies who lunch, the list goes on. I suppose most commonly if you wanted the British public to understand that a character is American you`d make them fat and loud.

Americans on TV are always portrayed so they either come from the midwest? or the deep south. They either come from a tiny town in the middle of nowhere and are naive, have an annoying drawl, loud and/or annoying, saying limey alot or are filthy rich and have spoilt children.

Dont you have BBC America. We often have American relatives visit us and they always go " Oh , Easdenders, this is own B-B-C America"

Apparently Love Thy Neighbour is really popular in America, which saddens me :(

Examples:

The Patriot
U-571
Titanic
The Mummy
Saving Private Ryan
Braveheart.....

Almost any Mel Gibson film in fact (is he australian?)... Hollywood script writers propensity for re-writing history so the brits just didn't happen or were merely supporting players is quite astonishing. They even changed the entire nationality of U-571!

I heard the reason a lot of bad guys in films have English accents was because to Americans it makes them sound more intelligent and because of this more scary.

I mean imagine a bond villan saying;

"When I press this button its gunna toast y'all asses"

I think it's because White British people are one of the very few, if not, only social groups left that can be portrayed in a negetive light. Anything else would be considered discriminating against race/religion/culture etc.
