i have a slim physique but i have to go to the gym and watch what i eat in order to keep the flat stomach and make sure the flabby arse is at bay.

the thing is i'm gona have to do this for the rest of my life! and work even harder when i get older as my metabolism slows down.

the thought of all that exercising and dieting to stay slim is quite depressing and a little bit daunting!!

Yes. It is indeed and Iam not even in perfect shape yet. I'd recommend building some lean muscle up, which means if you let slip for a while in the eating, your increased muscle mass should make up for it.

Did you know that the person who developed "jogging" as a form of aerobic exercise died of a heart attack.

Whilst jogging!

yeah i do weights after the cardio. isn't muscle 3times more compact than fat?

have you ever considered taking up a different form of exercise if the gym is daunting you? like dance?

there are loads of adult dance classes about and you don't have to be any good ;) I find dancing far more enjoyable than sweating my ass off on a bike going nowhere :p

Muscle does weigh more than fat - hence it is more dense. Depending on your aims, it mite be a better idea to do some stretching, some light weights, then some cardio.

Hiya

Just quickly, I used to work up at a Harpers Gym (dunno if you've heard of them, they'r meant to be nationwide though), and the quickest way of shedding fat off is to do resistance work.

Ie instead of running around like a mad man (or woman) on a treadmill 3 times a week, you're better off getting a decent muscle building (rather than toning) weights routine made up for you - ask one of the guys in which ever gym you go to to run through a quick one with you, it shouldnt take more than 15/20 minutes!

Also you're really best off if you try and build muscle rather than tone the exhisting underlying muscles - by building you remove the fatty deposits surrounding those muscles a lot quicker than toning them ever will - because you cant tone fat up! you've gotta replace it with muscle, and then if you want to look really ripped then begin toning it!

Another really good idea is (if you can) go swimming after doing your weights routine, as this helps not only warm all your muscles down, give you a CV work out aswell (healthy heart, raised metabolism) but but should also give you're slow flex muscles a work out, which is just as important as getting your fast flex ones in order.

I've rambled on a bit really havent I?
