Should the mastermind of the Bali bombings be put to death?
2nd point, he was a computer operator which furthers my point that Al Qaeda are extremists and this has nothing to do with lack of opportunity or poverty.

Prosecutors urge maximum penalty for alleged mastermind
Imam Samudra, center, one of the key suspects in the Bali bombings, raises his hands and shouts "God is great. Islam will win!" as he is escorted by police officers to go back to his detention house after his trial at a court in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, Monday.

BALI, Indonesia, July 28 — Indonesian prosecutors Monday demanded that the Islamic militant accused of masterminding last year’s bombings on the Indonesian island of Bali be sentenced to death.

AROUND 50 PEOPLE present in court, several of them relatives of foreign victims of the Oct. 12 attack, applauded when the sentence demand was read out.
Imam Samudra, a 33-year-old computer expert, has already admitted to taking part in the blasts that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists enjoying an evening out in a popular nightclub strip on the island.

Well it all depends on your personal views on the death penalty. I don't believe in it so I don't think he should be put to death. Him or anybody else, regardless of their crimes.

To me the real issue is: will he be put away with no chance for parole if found guilty? That's the only reason the death penalty makes sense anywhere it is applied...too many creeps get out on some legal technicality or for "good behavior" in prison.

I'm not really a fan of the death penalty but if he gets it, who cares.

Beyond early release, I also feel it's a waste of money to keep garbage like this guy alive in prison. He's been laughing at the victim's families in the courtroom. What value will he bring to anyone kept alive?

Well for starters there is the argument that you shouldn't murder someone because it's cheaper than keeping them alive.

But in any case it's actually cheaper to keep them alive than to sentence them to death.

I'm not pro death penalty either. I go back and forth on this and most other issues. I definitely see both sides of it. I can't pretend I don't.

if he dies he becomes a martyr...this is never a good thing as it will encourage other 'extremeists'.
