you don't need a degree for either - you can train at college on day release or by doing an apprentership with a salon and do NVQ training there. You don't actually have to have any kind of qualifications, but obviously it would help if you did.
There are various courses at colleges and training things to become a beautician - have a word with your local careers advisor or college and see what they have to offer.
