Just thinking in the world of entertainment how many times a 2nd choice works out better then the first.

For instance any real Star Trek fans will know that in the original series the famous crew were not the original cast (except for Mr Spock)

Geri Halliwell wasn't in the orignal audtions for the Spice Girls

Patrick Swayzee wasn't first choice for Dirty Dancing - Billy Zaine was but he couldn't dance to save his life!!

Anyone know any more 2nd choice stories?

In the reality Pop Idol shows it's almost always the second placed band/singer that has the better success.

Liberty X are flying while Hear'say are all depressed.
Gareth Gates isn't way ahead of Will Young but it's a close run thing.
And in America I think the runner up is currently at Number 1 while the winner is at Number 2

There are probably more but that's all I can think of right now.
