No, not really ... don't do anything stupid like crash diets, you'll do more harm than good. Generally, if you want to tone up I'd suggest a healthy diet and exercise, but it usually takes at least 6 weeks before you notice the results. So for the prom I'd suggest wearing a different dress if you feel uncomfortable in the one you have

try squats, sit ups and skipping!!!
squats: 3 sets X ten reps
sit-ups: 3 sets X ten reps
increase repition number by 3 every week
Good luck!

DO NOT CRASH DIET! I did that once and lost a stone in a month, but I felt ill and got awful skin and just looked crap. If you want to tone up a bit you could try walking more often. I'm sure you'll look great. Have a nice night

It's only bad for your leg joints if you go running on a hard surface like pavements and roads. Running on grass is supposed to be better because it cushions the impact of your feet or something like that...
But in saying that I've been running on roads for six months now and my knees are fine! The only problem I've had was pain in my feet from not wearing proper trainers.

If you run on grass, have a decent set of running shoes (Asics are the ones that I've had recommended to me a couple of times) and don't have chronically weak joints (or are significantly overweight), there shouldn't be a problem.
If you are worried about the impact of jogging on your joints, you can try cycling instead (if you have a bike) or swimming (if there is a pool near you that you can use, of course).
Failing that, as Angelic said, walk more often. I have been told (don't know for certain if it's true or not, so take with a pinch of salt) that you burn about the same number of calories by walking 3 miles as jogging the same 3 miles; it just takes longer, but won't be as stressful on the joints.
