I do agree that footballers get paid an awful lot of money probably even more than doctors, police and fire men etc ... this is an outrage and a disgust

I know, all they do is kick a ball around a pitch and live it up with their flash cars and big houses and party lives,im not saying all footballers are like this but there are a few i shall say.
As for being paid more than doctors, policemen and firemen and other life saving professions, that is the way it is but it shouldn't be,an outrage.

Is he worth £30m? Well, if he can help you win Trophies and get into the Champions League, then yes. One season in the CL would pay off the price tag easily.

I wouldn't mind him playing for the mighty Liverpool - chance would be a fine thing!

Also, David Beckham would bring the club millions just because he is so famous worldwide. Imagine the fans he would bring with him! All those Barcelona tops with Beckham on the back that would get sold to wee girls.

I know Barcelona is a world famous team already but he would bring them even more fame, popularity, fans and with all that comes money.

I am not sure he would want to go, he is in the prime of his career and Barca have been in a bit of a crisis, lots of goins on in the board and they are not in the Champions League which beckham is very used to playing in..............

Barca having had the worst season for years will definitely see the money as being worth it as they want to reurn to the Champions League and its going to take a lot of money to get out of the current position. Have to admit I am already planning my next visit and will be wearing a new shirt with Beckhams name on it fingers crossed!

At the end of the day football generates millions and is business. I don't think any of Barca's 98000 season ticket holders will be complaining.

Your probably right Toadborg, still when your main team is Bristol Rovers you learn to have dreams.

The world of Barca politics is like no other team and is probably closer to politics than sport. Candidates will say anything to get elected although I do believe whether its Barca or not, David Beckham should try out another club while he's still in his prime.

Fingers crossed :D

If he leaves Utd if any team he should go to should be Real Madrid ,they are a rich team, alot of top players and he would live an even higher style of life than he already does, some people just lap life up.
Well done to him is what i say,he worked for what he got and fair play to him,let him spend all the money he wants,he earned it.

Yea i heard something about Victoria getting her own channel on tv out in Milan, looks like Beckham might be on his way out of Utd.

He would be missed by the fans and on the field as well but if Ferguson signs who he wants they might not need him anymore.

But from what I have heard he will be signing young foreign players who have never played in England eg Ronaldhino and Xabi Alonso, they may take a while to settle in as with Veron and Forlan........

AC Milan have just signed Cafu a right-winger.........:chin:

Who? United? They will need to get reinforcements big time if they are to do so. Especially at the back.

United are always in the top 4 or 5 but seldom have the quality needed to say "we are the best of this lot". At some stages during the 2 games against Madrid it was getting at tad embarrassing.

Next year they will have a chance but they must first overcome teams like AC Milan or Madrid. Still early days but I think the winner will come from one of those 3 plus Valencia or Juventus.

Yes i was asking about Utd. I agree they have to sort out their defense big time and their goalkeeper, either replace him or he sort himself out.

Utd are a joke they are going to sell Beckham, there new players aren't going to adjust and there defence will be shown up again........

I heartily look forward to their failure in the second round (which is knock out next season) :D

Manchester United have released the following statement regarding David Beckham and Barcelona:

"Manchester United confirms that club officials have met Joan Laporta, the leading candidate for the Presidency of Barcelona. These meetings have resulted in an offer being made for the transfer of David Beckham to Barcelona.

"This offer is subject to a number of conditions and critically to both Mr Laporta being elected President on Sunday 15 June and Barcelona subsequently reaching agreement with David Beckham on his personal contract.

"Manchester United confirms that in the event that all of the conditions are fulfilled then the offer would be acceptable."

Beckham won't want it, I really can't see him being too keen.......

Man Utd have shafted him, supposedly the most loved footballer in the country and he has been treated really roughly....

What do you think MoK, would you swap Beckham for Ronaldhino (interestin Manchester derby next season ;) ) and Xabi alonso..........?

According to the news David Beckham has said he never said he wouldn't leave Utd, this may be a sign he is on his way out.

I also heard that his agent said they werent going to meet with any representives from Barcelona, anyway i think he should stay with Utd,his skill as a player is excellent and attracts many fans and money to his club.

Why would Utd want to sell a player who brings them goals and alot of money to the club because of trophies and publicity like the thousands and thousands of fans running around with Beckham on the back of their new Utd shirt.

Hmmmm.

If Beckham digs his heels in and stays, then I think he's going to spend a good bit of next season on the bench, depending on who they bring in.

Although now it looks as though Madrid are interested again, and they're also after Ronaldinho too.

I wouldn't rule out Italy either.

Or at least that is how it is being portrayed in the media.

Rumour is that he wants to join Milan. Might therefore be worth remembering that he has recently bought himself a place out there...

Yes, without a second thought. And not only for the derby game (you know that was the first thing which came to mind when I heard we might get him...)...

Beckham is a fine player, without doubt, but he's a little one dimensional in his play. He also struggles against some of the top European teams and when they shut him down United struggle.

He's also not enough of a defensive player, again this becomes apparent in Europe.

Perhaps the biggest complaint I have though is his performances. I cannot complain about the effort he puts in for England, I just wish he showed the same passion for United. I'm not saying he doesn't care about United, but I do fear that his best performances are saved for England (or when he wants to make a point to Fergie - like against Madrid...)

Shogun

Yes that does seem to be true, when you think about Beckham is always at the top of everything when hes playing in Big matches, so maybe he is just lazing his way around.

If he has bought a place in Milan and Milan offering Victoria a channel on italy's tv, Milan would seem the best choice.

[David Beckham's dad has criticised Manchester United for making deals behind the England captain's back.

Ted Beckham claims Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has not spoken to his son for months.

He feels the midfielder is being shown the door at Old Trafford because Ferguson no longer 'likes him'. ]

['To do all this behind his back is awful. Obviously, loyalty doesn't mean a thing in football. It's a ruthless, ruthless game.
'David's pride is hurt severely - it has got to be.']

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fergie suck! He should retire...and get the hell out of the soccer scene.

he has just joined real

England captain David Beckham has reportedly signed for Real Madrid in a £22m deal.
According to the Spanish press, the Manchester United midfielder has agreed a four-year deal with the European giants.

And Beckham's representatives SFX have told the BBC that "the deal is imminent if not concluded".

Beckham's future has been the source of intense media speculation in recent weeks, with a number of top clubs interested in capturing the 28-year-old.

Barcelona had seemingly stolen the initiative over their Spanish rivals as well as the likes of AC Milan and Inter by agreeing a deal with Manchester United.

But Real Madrid swooped late to lure Beckham to the Bernabeu, where he will play alongside Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Raul.

Reports suggest Beckham will be unveiled at Real's headquarters on 2 July.

There are also claims he will wear a shirt with the number '77' on the back because Raul currently has the number '7'.

Manchester United are refusing to confirm or deny whether Beckham has signed for Real Madrid but hinted there could be an announcement before 2100 BST.

The player is currently embarking on a tour of the Far East having just returned from the United States.

News of Beckham's move to Real Madrid will come as a bitter blow to fierce rivals Barca - and new president Joan Laporta in particular.

Laporta based his whole presidential campaign on his promise that he would bring the world's most high-profile footballer to the Nou Camp.

Manchester United are expected to step up their bid to bring Ronaldhino to Old Trafford and will use the rest of the money they receive for Beckham to strengthen their squad.

It will be interesting if Utd are playing against Real Madrid in the Champions League, I heard that several players from Madrid and Utd didnt want Beckham to join Madrid, there may be a rift between players in the Madrid squad and Beckham.

Wow! He's gonna wear the No. 77 shirt? Gee, guess he's gonna rock the whole world with that new 77 shirt.

It's gonna be tough for Becks if he's really gonna sign Real. Cos, he would have to work real hard in order to blend in with that new team.

Big guns vs Big gun. Gee, it's gonna be a great challenge for Becks to handle those "Human Factors" within the club.

Way to go BECKS!

All the best BECKS!

Manchester United today reached agreement for the transfer of David Beckham to Real Madrid for a fee of Euros35m (approximately £25m).

The deal is expected to be completed in July, conditional upon approval by the boards of Manchester United and Real Madrid, and on the provision of satisfactory payment guarantees.

David Beckham has agreed personal terms with Real Madrid and expects to sign his new contract with the club on completion.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: ?I?ve known David since he was 11 years of age, and it?s been a pleasure to see him grow and develop into the player he has become. David has been an integral part of all the successes that Manchester United have achieved in the last decade. I would like to wish him and his family every success in the future, and thank him for his service to the club.?

Peter Kenyon, chief executive of Manchester United, said: ?While we are sad to see David go after so many great years at Old Trafford, we believe this is a good deal for the club, and we now look forward to building on the success of last season?s championship title. We wish David all the best in his new career in Spain and thank him for his fantastic contribution to the team?s achievements in the last decade. We have worked closely with David?s advisors throughout the past few weeks and thank them for their co-operation.?

Under the terms of the agreement, Euros7.5m of the total fee will be paid upon completion of the sale, and Euros17.5m over the following four years in equal instalments. The remaining Euros10m is conditional upon Real Madrid's performances in the UEFA Champions League. Under the deal, Euros1.25m is payable in each of the next four seasons conditional on Real Madrid qualifying for the Champions League, and a further Euros1.25m is payable each season conditional on Real Madrid reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League over the same period. All the deferred payments will be backed by acceptable guarantees.

Manchester United PLC, 17 June 2003.

I think Beckham would have preferred to stay at United but he wasn't going to sit at the bench and take any further shit. If he was to move elsewhere there was only Madrid and AC Milan he would really have considered going to.

I don't think he will have a problem blending in. Every time someone big has joined Madrid- Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo- there has been speculation about friction amongst players and problems settling in. None of this has come to be true and although it took them 2 or 3 months to exploit their potential in full, the above players have played some of their very best football in a white shirt. The players would also appear to be quite down to earth. Take Zidane, in my opinion so superior to anyone else on the planet he might as well be from another galaxy. Yet he is a nice, unpretentious lad and not one to engage in popularity contests with fellow players.

Beckham has reportedly refused to ask for the no. 7 shirt. He well knows that Raul, who many believe is Madrid's best asset and is a crowd favourite, is the face of number 7 in Madrid. The two players are said to get on well so Beckham knows departing with number 7 was always going to happen if he went to Madrid.

Yep.

The only point I'd make is, that out of United's midfield (Giggs, Keane, Scholes, Becks), he's probably the one who'd be missed least, as the end of last season showed.

Good deal for everyone I think.

NinjaMaster

Have to agree with you Bri. Only thing (IMHO) that he's any good for is crosses and free-kicks.

The likes of Scholes and Giggs (again IMHO) are better all-round players.

I think he will be made very welcome, although in Spain at least he's not seen as the number 1 super-famous footballer he seems to be here and in parts of Asia.

Madrid fans however are well known to be temperamental and unforgiving (the older generation at least, who despite recent successes of the team still think of past times with Di Stefano and Puskas and 5 European Cups on the trot) and if his performances are anything less than brilliant he will be booed off the pitch- just like Ronaldo was shortly before his hat-trick against United.

But in general people are very happy to see him arrive and they have grown accustomed to landing the biggest start available at the club for every new season.

Plus remember Hello! magazine is actually a Spanish enterprise and the market for such weekly rags is even bigger than in England- which means he and his wife will get all the attention and front pages they could ever wish for.
