I'm interested in how much time and money people give to their sport or fitness activity, and why do you do it?

you lot are quiet
I am getting back into surfing and have just got a new w suit £100, a new board will cost £300 at some point.
I run - £50 on shoes each year
I cycle, already have a bike but service and bits etc £150 / year
I swim, £2 a go
excluding surfing I probably spend 3 hours a week doing activity.

The football seasons finished now but I trained once a week for an hour (had to pay £1), played Saturdays (£2.50) and played Sundays (£2.50). I also had kickabouts with my mates through the week which cost nothing. I bought this season a pair of football trainers (for astro turf) which cost £40, a pair of studded boots (£40) and a pair of Predator blades (£60) and shinpads (£15).
Since the seasons finished I go to the gym 3 times a week costing £3.00 a time.

'Sailing is like tearing up £20 notes in a cold shower' is a very perceptive quote:

29er: £4500 new
W/suit: £90
W/boots: £30
Gloves: £10
Buoyancy Aid: £30
Racing Timer: £90
Sailing club membership: £70 a year
Train Fare: £3:00 every time (in season i go twice a week)

My budget for spares, breakages and modifications was £100 a month (£1200 a year).
The sails are overhauled once a year (£300) and replaced every thre (£1000)

Add to that;
Travelling costs to regatta,
Food costs at club and regatta,
Accom. costs @ regatta,
entry fees and
yachting magazine subsription.

Thats ALOT of money. I conribute 80% of my work money and my dad makes up the rest... Its worth it though:)

Gym membership - 35 quid a month
Gym gloves - 20 quid
Gym bag - 10 quid
Water bottle - free
Towel - 2 quid

Total spent per year = 450ish

Now, I go to the gym about every other day when Iam on form and theres no exams, so about....6-8 hours a week.

I'm a hockey goalkeeper.

I pay £45 a year towards my club membership and training fees, and £2 a match.
I need to buy hockey clothes, which cost not very much - like £5 for a pair of trousers and I just use random t-shirts.
I just wear random trainers too, so that doesn't cost me terribly much.

For equipment, my kit needs to be replaced every 2-3 years
-Legguards and kickers: anywhere from £150 - £400
-Helmet: Around £100
-Padded Shorts: £70
-Guantlets (Big foam gloves): £105
-Smock: £20
-Stick: I just use an ancient one. For a good goalie stick I'd be about £40

I've never replaced my padded shorts or my helmet, even though the helmet's beginning to need it. I got new gloves before christmas, and new kickers and legguards a year and a half ago. The smock is bought by the school.

Most of the money for it came out of my savings. My parents pay for matches and fees though - I don't work (don't have time to work :/)

I'm not sporty at all! Not v good at fitness either, but here's my pennysworth - I jog sometimes, used to be a couple of times a week - and that's free of course :) ...and I'm member of a gym. I'm only 17 so I've got a junior membership for only £90/yr and I go twice or 3 times a week if I'm doing well. Having said that, I've just been through a period of a couple of months of not going at all!!
