Disconnect your pc from the internet.

Backup any *data* files only like word docs and possibly email onto cd or floppy.

Format your computer and resintall windows, or use the recovery disk to return to factory condition if you have one.

When you reconnect to the Internet, change all your passwords.

Consider getting a personal firewall, such as zonealarm.

Have you been visiting porn sites (or anybody whose been on your computer), and have you clicked on a link that resets your homepage, or bookmarked the site, or did it ask you to download any file of any kind? If so, it may just be a simple case of uninstalling that file, and resetting your homepage to your usual page.
Check to see if your dial up properties have been changed too, sometimes if you download a file it will put a premium rate net connection in as your default dial up.

Woah!

Don't format your computer just yet!

Don't connect to the internet, and scan for viruses first - namely trojans.

I got hacked a couple of months ago. However, it wasn't made quite as obvious as saying "we have hacked you!". Only when I was unable to log onto "The Site", I then realised that someone had control over my password.

Thanks to a very helpful admin called Karla, I managed to get my account back. I was naive and have learnt the lesson. The following would be useful:

1) Get firewalled straight away - Look n Stop or Zone Alarm
2) Install Ad-Aware and scan for spyware
3) Install an antivirus + latest antidote + scan for virii
4) Reset your homepage
5) Check your add/remove program options for anything you don't recognise

some idiot sent me a trojan a few months ago and my firewall picked it up and told me from wot ip and port he was tring to access my computer from, so i swiftly copied and pasted his ip into this magical wee program ive got, and remotely made his computer print "you are a hairy axe wound" and shut down his computer. Highly amusing, well i thought it was :D

Ahhh homepage hijacking. A really good anti-spyware site you might wanna take a look at is:

www.cexx.org - Also has a bit about your problem too. Well worth a look.

If it's a boot sector virus (if you don't know, don't ask), formatting won't work. Do a virus scan, there's a free online one at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp, and get ZoneAlarm. NEVER open email attachments that are .pif, .scr or .exe without checking that the sender definatly wanted to send them. And if you have to use P2P software, use Kazaa lite. It's bad, but not as bad.

once i visited a cracks page lookin for product keys and they had loads of ads and pop ups.
when i started IE again the site had automatically changed the homepage to some anime site.
loads of sites also add them to your favourites too.
considering i dont click links or activate anything myself (i find its best to stop touching things till they've stopped appearing and then close them all) it's clear that pop ups and shit are gettin worse and worse.
