I was looking forward to uni, with all the talk of sex drugs rock n roll, getting laid in fresher's week, & having less work than A Levels so plenty of time to chill.

Yeh fuckin rite, I'm at Cambridge, have 9am lectures & tutes 5 or 6 times a week [yep, work on Saturdays].

The problem: Cos theres so much fucking work I wasnt able to spend enough time with my gf - the "am i still a virgin" post i had before, we only tried 2 times cuz most of the time one or both of us were too busy!

& the nites we did have fun Im obv tired the next day the tutor writes on my report I wasnt alert enough... fuck this I wanna have fun, wasn't able to spend enough time with my girl cuz of fucking workload, now its ended cuz she sed shes too busy with exams.

Think its only Cambridge where we have too much fucking work, my mates back home get laid regularly

nah, it's the same across the board, i think. i'm taking a break from my boyfriend at the moment while we do our exams and,hopefully pass them. it's so hard to balance all the uni shit, work and a relationship at the same time. while you still live at home. :banghead: oy! i need to get laid!! to be blunt.:naughty:

I spent my entire first year drinking way too much and going out way too much.

I missed tons of lectures, but it was first year :) It's expected and it's easy to catch up.

With me it's the first time away from home & old fashioned parents, I'm in halls so it's the perfect opportunity to meet ppl etc. Ur right it's shit having to balance uni work with a relationship, I know I'd be happier with a girl then when the opportunity comes

This is why I'm startin to hate the academic system at Cambridge, if we miss lectures or not hand in the 2 essays a week on time [its 2 essays a term elsewhere!!] we'd get bollocked. Starting to wish I'd gone somewhere else...

2 essays a week? mine is about 6 essays a term. and continuous assesments and tests too. but cambridge is such a *ooh* uni that it's probably a struggle to stay in it?

and i can't miss that many lectures. have to have 75% attendance, it being a professional course. :impissed:

How much the work varies from uni to uni and subject to subject is ridiculous, the same course I'm doin at other top 10 unis they've had 1 essay in the whole term!

And yeh its such a *ooh* uni u have to work non-stop to stay in, no wonder as a result we're one of the "least sexually active unis in the UK" along with Oxford... just pisses me off ppl thinkin theres nowt to life but studying, I wanna go out, have fun, get laid lol... aint gonna happen for the next 3 yrs!

When I was at university, I revised (studied/read) for about 8 hours every day - plus lectures and workshops. This did not stop me from going out drinking and having sex, but I did these things after my work had finished. Clearly, it is possible to combine all of these, so long as you plan and use your time effectively.

lol. You'll find EVERY university student has plenty of work to doand lecturers/workshops/seminars to attend. The question is whether they do the work and attend when they are meant to, instead of merely socialising. So it is clearly wrong to say that merely Cambridge students have a lot of work. The issue here is not a lack of time, but rather to use your time effectively and to prioritise things in order to do everything that you want.

We shouldn't forget that everyone is different and not everyone is into sex, drugs and rock and roll. Although the majority may be likely to be. It also depends on the uni.

Seriously though, I'm in my final year at uni and have a dissertation deadline looming and exams in May but it doesn't stop me from having sex more or less when my gf and I want to. What we have started doing now is making sure we get all the boring stuff, ie work done in the week so we can have a dedicated "sex day" at the weekend.

Ok is it just me or does Uni in England sound totally shit! Here in Ireland its so laid back. Every Tuesday and Thursday night its student night and every student goes out! Even the ones in the good colleges! Come on over here. We'll show ye all a good time!!!

thats how it always was for me in Newcastle. Oh the good ol days.

But then again I never went to lectures, copied me mates notes all the time and did the work. Lectures could be missed, seminars couldn't.

My uni days I had sex all the time, went out all the time and generally had a good laugh. Roll on Sept when I can get back to them :D

I've found the whole Uni experience to be nothing like that. It's boring and dull. I don't feel comfortable there, and I don't feel like I fit in. There's nothing much to do, probably because the Uni I'm at is too small to have much going on. :( I should've gone to Hull Uni instead.

What you get up to/how much work you get done just depends how much sleep you get. By that i literally mean sleep - Iam in my final year of a-levels and have time for everything and work because I sleep less.

Yeh to get everything I wanted done I was on 3-4hrs sleep a nite, if that. & a few sleepless nites when with my girl...

The problem being the next day the tutor saying "You're not very alert, you're not with it..." which all went down in the end of term report. And being absolutely knackered, not being able to get work done cuz of lack of sleep...

V surprised at person sayin never kissed girl in 3yrs. Seems to depend on specific uni... Cambridge seems crap. Preston [Uni of Central Lancashire] every1 got laid in Fresher's Week, says my [female] friend. At Durham my mate *claims* he goes out and is guaranteed head every time. York is crap apparently. etc...

Difficult to manage on less than 6 hours - I usually get about 8 or 9 now if I can, and then its just about making the absolute best of your time I guess.

this is all seems so strange to me. I'm at one of the top unis. I have 8 hours a week lectures to which no one cares if you go or not, 4 fortnightly seminars of which you can miss 2. My first year consisted of me doing jack shit and I passed. Granted I do do an arts subect so I am sposed to spend a lot of time reading but no one does. I'm so glad I didn't aply to Oxbridge now!

we go out but we fail the tests we have the next day! and i hope that i'm in a good college, lol. student nights are not all they're cracked up to be either, in dublin anyway. you think you're getting a good deal but at the end of the night, you're still €50 down. and you don't know where it's gone.

although, one thing i can say is that you *will* be guaranteed a score on student night. definitely.:naughty:
