What do you really think about prostitutes?

Ive often thought about offering my services but to be honest men just cant afford me :lol:

As far as prostitues go I say they should be legalised. they at the end of the day are offering a service to anyone who wants to pay for it. Most are consenting adults so I honestly cannot see the problem.

If it were legalised then youd have proper places to go. Girls wouldnt walk the streets to get contacts. Girls wouldnt be mugged and raped on the streets.
If it were in like a parlour thing then there would be people about , probably have panic buttons. The clients would have nice surroundings to actually enjoy the sex, rather than a quickie in the back of the car.
Some people would say its discusting but they also say that about strip bars, pole dancers etc. But after a while people would realise that they are girls just out to make some money.

Although I really don't like the thought of selling my own body for money, I don't have a problem with prostitution 'per se' - if a woman wants to, then why shouldn't she.

BUT it's my belief that only a very few prostitutes do it because it's their own choice:
1) many have no other way of earning money because they may be unqualified for anything, or immigrants without papers, or homeless
2) many are forced into it by pimps who beat them or threaten them
3) not so much in this country, but thousands and thousands of children are bought and sold for prostitution, sometimes by their own mothers as a way of making money
...I'm sure there are more...

And also, there's a huge element of danger with STIs and also of being attacked, kidnapped etc.


I kind of agree with Becky that if prostitution were legalised then all these things would be regulated and much safer, but in reality I think that's hard to enforce, and the reason prostitution is illegal is (as well as the 'moral' issue some people have) that the vast majority of prostitutes are not doing it (no pun intended...) of their own will.

Prostitution itself is not actually illegal. Soliciting is, as is living off immoral earnings, plus several other associated crimes.

But it is not illegal for money to be exchanged for sexual favours between consenting adults.

i think it should be legalised..... it makes so much more sense. Prostitution is happening now anyway... being made completly legal and organised just means the whole business would be safer and less dangerous to those paying, and the prostitutes themselves. I wouldnt pay anyone for sex if im going to sleep with someone id like it to be because they wanted to shag me 4 me, and not just my money!

Brothels are legal in one state in America. (Nevada?(is that even a state?)) The 'cat houses' have to be a certain distance from towns with only discreet signs and the 'employees' have to be checked for STDs once a week and HIV once a month. The girls also have to pay loadsa tax like 50% or summit.

You may not agree with it however people do prostitution. So do we make it so that girls can kind of go to proper places or have them soliciting in the streets?

I dont personally agree with it, I wouldnt do it even if i had no money but some people feel they have to or even need to. They may have debt probs, drug probs and as we know people with drug problems will do anything they have to just for that fix, even if it is selling their body.

If people want to buy sex then that is all well and good - their business and nobody elses.

If it is legalised then I think there would have to be tight controls in order to make it safer.

What worries me is that a lot of girls are forced into prostitution when they are homeless or to feed a drugs habit, so I think those areas need to be addressed first.

i agree with this completely. it is something i have considered and i think i would do it. not hanging out on street corners but becoming an escort. i've written an entry in my LJ about it and its something that i would be willing to try out.
