Ever been to a LAN party? Was it good? Would you go again?

If you haven't, would you like to?

</not so random, honest>

Can't say I have. I'm sure they could be fun with a suitable group of people.

A couple of folk I know were at i15. I couldn't be arsed with a lan like that. I'd rather go where I know everyone n just get to arse around for days. :)

I'd like to go to one. Nearly went to one in Swindon a few years ago. A mate and I were going to go and share his computer for the weekend, but he couldn't make it, and I didn't have a decent enough computer or a LAN card at the time. I'd love to go to one sometime though. The nearest I've been to that is at the Uni where they have a dozen computers networked together just for the purpose of gaming (after 3pm though).

i would like to go, but i imagine only cs would be mainly played, which kinda sucks.

Hehe. It's a private clan one :) Not that there are just clan-members there like... it's just that you've gotta know them well before you can go :)

Yeah me and some mates had a 2 day LAN party round my rich mate's house. There were 8 computers and we played C+C-Generals, Counterstrike and Worms Armageddon pretty much for 48 hours straight.
I could so do it again!

It's an event where you bring your own computer, with a LAN networking card, and plug it in to a network that connects everybody's computers together for the purpsose of playing games against each other. LAN parties can be a few friends getting together with their computers to play, or can be hundreds gathering at an organised event (sometimes these even have modest prizes). Most of the large organised events last a whole weekend, and often have somewhere for you to sleep if you need/want to. :)

I'd consider it if it was with people I knew well enough, only trouble is I've not got CS or similar games so I'd be crap at it :p

Do you have breaks and stuff? I could'nt sit at a computer for hours without going for food and fresh air every so often.

We can do whatever we want. The computers are there when we want/need them, but there are meals, n trips to the pub, or shops, and whatever else.... We're probably going sight seeing at some point too :D

You wouldn't have to worry about that. A good lan party will have a central server that players can download all the patches, mods, levels, etc, that everybody would need. CounterStrike is a mod for Half-Life, and you can pick up Half-Life for a few quid nowadays.

We can also get stuff from everyone elses' PCs. If you want music of some kind, someone is bound to have it - same with porn/movies/programs/anything.

ah i do love a good lan, infact i went to a lan last week, back in the day we used to take about 20 computers to a barn that belonged to a mate of mine, more of a pissup really with some gaming in between, there were about 10 barns in all before we all packed up and went to uni, even got into pc gamer once, and yeah cs is way overplayed, i quite like the mod wastelands for halflife, all v all and its pretty tense, but you can't beat a classic game like the first ut for multiplayer, i still prefer it to ut2003, nowadays when we have lans there is so little gaming because everyone is just nicking movies/porn/music etc and theres too much lag to play, even with 10/100, god the first couple barns were 10mbps, dont know how we managed. Tried to put up our own LAN at uni on campus, strung a wire between the two campuses and had good gaming for a couple of days before the warden saw it and ripped it down, what a bastard. Nothing better than a joint break in between gaming either, well relaxing after an adrenalin rush like ut with 20 other people, manic.

Reminds me of the block of flats at the end of the street. Last year there were LAN cables running out of windows, wrapped around drainpipes, and running everywhere around the building so they could play LAN games against each other. :)
