Is it safe to fly when taking the combined pill? I know it can slightly increase the risk of thrombosis so is there anything i can do before or during the flight?

I didn't do anything beforehand, my doctor said the only thing worth recommending are the flight stockings. Not very glamourous, but they keep your legs warm :)

Seriously though, has anyone had any advice from their doctor about what to do, and any possible risks when taking the combined pill and flying??

How long's the flight? Basically you need to make sure that you're not in a sitting position for hours on end. If it's only a 2 or 3 hour flight you don't have much to worry about. If it's longer, then you should probably make sure you get up & walk upu and down pretty regularly.
Why do you not ask your doctor?
