Just asking because of the steadily increasing prices we seem to be paying in clubs.

On saturday night I went to Camden Palace for Frantic. Every time I go there it seems to get more expensive.

Break down of costs.......

Entry £18 each
Cloak room £2 per item (3 items)
Water £2.50 per bottle (which are getting smaller)

So it had cost us £47 (dont quote me on the maths) between us before we had even payed for any gear !

:)

Mindless all the way

I voted no, but it kinda depends on which clubs you go to. At the big name clubs (mos being the only one i've been to) then it is stupid. A bottle of water ost £2.50, which I thought was the upper limit, but then it was half the size of a normal bottle.

But at the smaller underground clubs (£10-£13 to get in £2 cloakroom £2 water) they need to charge this just to make their money back. I think it is justifyed, definatly in smaller clubs, maybe also in big name clubs, by the fact that so many fucking drug addicts ;) go to them, and don't soend money on drinks. This must be a huge source of income at any rock-type club, but in most night clubs they don't make this money, because so many people just take drugs and buy one bottle of water, so they need to make the money up elsewhere.

I would happily have a few beers when out if they were not as expensive too, I mean £3.50 for a bottle of becks ?

I cant afford to pay that on top of everything else!

I agree the smaller clubs are more reasonable, I go to clubs in vauxhall and yeah £10 to get in is more acceptable for entry to a club that you will be in for 6-8 hours.

But I blame the djs! I am talking about the big names, who charge so much to play, there are so many good djs out there who have residencies at small clubs and alot of them are in my opnion better or you wouldnt know the difference!

Kinda gone on a tangent now and lost the plot so will quit while i am behind ! :)

Moan moan moan - if you can't afford it, don't go there! It's not as if you have a right to go to the most expensive clubs just because you want to!

as student, the best play to go clubbing on the south coast, my uni at southampton is dead cheap, so r the clubs the entrance fees range from £2 - £7, water u get free (tap water). Cloak room prices £1 - £2.

like london, every club is big rip off e.g The End. especiall the clubs in Ibiza, i'll probablly go there wen i'm 25 , when can actually afford it i hear people spend between £ 200 - £600 a week there.

You know the score, it is pretty much all down to DJ's like that greedy twat Oakenfold. £100,000 for his 2 hour set @ GKGG is an absolute disgrace consdering he isn't even technically that good behind the decks. He plays almost exactly the same set wherever he goes too for a few months as he is lazy. And about his producing, his new song is a complete sell out. He completely lets his name and past success do the talking rather than his "talent".

Ahhh dont get me started on Oakey, what is that tune about? Maybe he thought, all this dj work is a bit too stressfull, you know working 4 hours a week, maybe I will knock up some crappy tune and let it sit in the charts for a while so I can sit my big phat arse down and watch my cash grow !

Here's an example of how much clubbers get ripped off. Dave Clarke is DJing at a club quite near me:

The Subway - capacity = 300 (legal)
Tickets = £17 (!)
300 x £17.00 = £5100.00
Dave Clarke costs £1800 + hotel and flights

So that's a profit of £3300 without taking into account any overheads like electricity etc. But then this figure is also without taking into account drink sales etc.

This is why the clubscene isn't quite firing on all cyliders at the moment. We clubbers ARE being ripped off and we shouldn't stand for it. People need to boycott the DJ's they make the clubs pay extortionate fees. Illegal underground parties and more underground club nights with less known (but probably mroe talented) DJs will be a more commonplace if these prices continue. This may not be a bad thing because it will be exciting, fun and cheap! :D

Also, this highlights just how much of a cunt Oakenfold is since Dave Clarke is a better DJ and costs £1800, while Oakenfold charged £100,000 for his set at Godskitchen Global Gathering!!!

Some clubs I know are being good to the clubbers and keeping a set price to get in. A club near to me called Room At The Top charges £10 regardless of the line-up which is good. They still get big names but keep their prices down. In March they had Marco V, Matt Hardwick and Woody Van Eyden on a Saturday night and then Johan Gielen and DJ Tiesto the night after. It was £10 for the first night and if you went to it, then you could go to the second night for only £5! £5 for Johan Gielen and DJ Tiesto!!! Bargin! :)

It's not just the entry fee thats the issue tho is it, I mean, I don't have a prob with payin a tenner for an all niter at all, but two quid to put my bag in a room? n 2.50 for a teeny bottle of water, which they know ull pay cos they know u need it, they're just greedy bastards!

apart from this obvious oakey scandal i am relatively ok with club prices. well the lubs i go to anyway. a club that i go to (which gets all the big names) charges £6 door fee e.g joy kitikonti, fergie, scot project. then u get free tap water in pint glasses sittin out at side of bar. cloak room is only £1. its sweet ad it isnt a student venue or anything. i actually pay more tog et up on the bus than anything else!!
