Is anyone fed up of the utter cheese of that is known as Trance, Euro Dance etc...People like Ian Van Dhal (SP?), Scooter and other acts I think have given the whole Trance scene a bad name it's getting worse all the time. Can't remember the name of the act now but they got the vocals from and old Happy Hardcore tune from back in 97 called shootin' star and made sound real wank. The clubs are way to commercial and only interested in making money and don't take enuff interest in the music...The music bein played is just a trend and Trance will slowly die. Sooner the better.

Eh? Scooter etc. IS NOT TRANCE! That's pop music mate and you won't hear it played in a proper club!

Yep that is definitly not real trance, its pop-trance if you ask me. I can't stand it  It gives trance a bad name because if someone asks me what music I'm into, I'll say Trance and they'll inevitibly (sp) say "You mean like Ian van Dahl/Lasgo/FlipnFill/other interchangeable pop-trance act"

Pisses me off!

BARTONIOUS

I don't give a fuck if it's commercial, at the end of the day...IT'S PISH! And dance clubs don't play it actually.

The ammount of different names that the media comes up with is ridiculous, when I were a lad, Trance was stuff like the orb, orbital, future sound of london and such like?

There are just too many names and its all created by music journalists who have nothing better to do, except confuse record buyers.

You guys were saying earlier about Ian van dahl, they call that trance? or house? or pop music? or just plain pants?

Yeah, every "dance" tune that comes into the charts does indeed suck. If it makes it to the charts then it is pop music and not proper club music.

As to Ian Van Dahl, see above ;)

I FUCKING HATE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like trance stuff from '98 with a load of awfull shitty singing the whole way thru it,., and ian van dahl will be raking loads of money in for it & scooter hahahaha ,, thought they died years and years ago haha just shows how desperate they are.. some of the stuff ive heard are blatent rip offs of older decent tunes,, some stuff PVD played back in 99...

I hope the way dance music goes is that it all gets so damn hard that they cant release anything in the charts and it goes back underground... (cant see it happening)) thers too many people jumping on band wagons!!

any dance u c in the charts here is not dance, its all cheese. basically useless and if u hear ne of it played in a clu, get outta there like, fuck sake. ull not c a decent tune in the charts unless ur in germany or belgium as sumtimes sum decent tunes do well. i kant think of nething decent that has done well here...maybe public domain/warpbrothers but were still verging on commercial here :(

How would some of you stressed out individuals react if your favourite non chart underground proper clubbing tunes in any dance genre suddenly became popular with the masses and then got into the dodgy uk charts? Apart from going skitz i'd imagine you'd also disown it.

I agree with sir cum, I hate people like the ones expressing their views on this thread. They think they are 'ubercool' because they like really unknown and exclusive music. Just cause something is in the charts doesn't mean it isn't good?! Yes, you can argue that there is a lot a music that is crap, but so what? Music should be about having fun, not about being 'cool'.

BARTONIOUS

No as I stated above, I don't care if it's commercial!!! If the music is good then good! But EVERY dance tune that has been in the charts for as long as I can rememeber has been PISH in my opinion! End of story.

"SCOOTER - THE LOGICAL SONG" IS A TERRIBLE SONG, SIMPLE FACT!!! (also in my opinion).

I can understand that people like these sort of songs and that's why they are in the charts, but I don't rate them at all.

Who even said music was about being cool? You're getting the wrong idea here completely. I listen to music I like the sound of, not to try and be cool, that would just be childish and shallow. Why would I want to listen to music that I don't like? By the way your argument doesn't make sense. You admit that a lot of music in the charts is crap, but you don't care. The you go on to say that music should be about having fun? Well, how can the music be fun if it's crap?

Idiot.

A lot of things, that I personally consider crap, can be fun. When I say crap, I mean it doesn't really challange me mentally. For example I think the sun is a crap newspaper but I read it for a laugh now and again, and i don't criticise other people who choose to read it. I understand you may not listen to music to be cool , but your views on other people's choice of music is a very snobbish attitude.

OK that's fair enough, I thought when you meant crap you meant that you didn't like it. Fair do's

That's cool, you have the right to criticise music in the charts if you want, if you think it is crap, it's crap.

But you shouldn't criticise other people for their choice in music, even if it is bob the builder.

BARTONIOUS

Well I'm a drummer for an indie/rock band so indie music. Also, progressive dance music that Sasha, Sander Kleinenberg, Deep Dish, Dave Seaman etc. plays

A few of the tunes I own made it into the charts I'll admit, Push - The Legacy is a fuckin tune and it got quite high, but I don't care, its a good song! I only care if I like the song, who gives a toss if its underground or not. Fair enough if you only like underground music, if you don't like anything in the charts thats fair enough. After all everyone should get their own opinion, but we all know that Scooter etc are all in it for the money.

On a side-note, has anyone heard Ian van Dahl's new album sampler? Its more underground than their usual stuff, no fluffy vocals or anything. Just shows that a group can be good when they aren't concentrating on making cheese that will appeal to the pop fans.

Push - The Legacy is a good tune although never knew it got into the charts! I've never said I've hated the music in the charts just because it's usually commercial, I just hadn't come across a song in the charts that was good.

From your description, maybe I can understand your views. I may be completely wrong, but my friend also plays guitar in band, and he is very critical of music, especially in the charts, when i argue with him about it, he explains because he plays an instrument, he has a higher understanding of music, so he can tell the difference between good and bad music. I thught this was complete shit until he explained that because I do english, I am more critical of some literature than other people are, as i know more about the subtleties of the english language. Is my mate speaking complete arse or do you feel this way too?

BARTONIOUS
06-09-2002, 05:29 PM
Spot on mate spot on! That's why I like deep progressive house music the best when it comes to dance because I appretiate it the most. All the subtle beats. I even critisise proper trance a bit because it is a bit simple and unintelligent, but I do like trance for it's simplicity even if it isn't very difficult to make a trance tune.

theres a new vocal version of push - the legacy coming out, its terrible, really really cheesy and the record label are releasing it without the backing of mike 'push' he's completly against the mix!

Then Mike should sue the bastards... He owns all the rights to his stuff and he should sort them out.. If it were to happen to me i would go mental!

I F***ing HATE Commercial (£££££££££) Bastards!

Its Strange World thats getting a crap, cheesy vocal on it, not Legacy... anyway ye I think if Mike isn't happy with it it shouldn't get released, its obvious that Inferno are trying to make some more money out of it by adding vocals that will appeal to the mainstream. I for one did definitly not buy that record. The vocal totally ruins the mood of the song, doesn't go well... man I could rant forever.

For those of you talking about good tunes being played too much on the radio, be lucky you don't live in Scotland (unless you do of course :D ). Beat 106 are the worst station ever for doing that, they'll play tunes like 8 times a day and they're always speeded up far too much for some reason.

On the topic of crappy vocals... 4 Strings - Diving (Vocal Mix) has to be one of the worst trance songs I have heard in ages, whereas the instrumental mix is an amazing tune

On another note, the topic "Commercial Wank" makes me think of someone wanking to the sounds of Ian van Dahl etc... scary eh
