Earlier tonight I was walking away from the kitchen and heard a crash. I turned round and my Dad was lying slumped on the floor. I ran back in and asked him if he was ok, but his eyes were glazed and he was not responding to what I said. His face started to shake and he was making strange noises, like he was having a fit, and I was terrified. Then a second later he blinked and said "what happened?", he was very dazed but okay in general. That was such a frightening experience. We think he just fainted from the heat, but I didn't know that, I thought maybe he was having a heart attack or a fit. It really shook me up and I realised that I didn't have a clue what to do. I don't really know why I am posting this, but I am the only person at home and have no-one to say all this to. I am just glad I was there.

God, that would terrify me if that happened. I'm a person that panics in that kind of situation...at least I think I would be that kind of person. Your dad is okay now, yeah?

He said he was ok, he seemed a bit confused and didn't know what had happened. He's lying down upstairs now. :(

I would suggest that your dad sees his doctor about that, as it sounds like he did have a fit.

Yes pussykatty, get your dad to see a doctor if possible.
A friend of mine suffered a similar fit and we didn't know what to do. There was six of us and all of us were clueless, so we all did a first aid course together!

Def try and see a doctor, or you could try and get him to A&E just to be on the safe side. Could it have possibly have been sunstroke?

Thanks for the replies. I will tell him to go to the doctor but don't know if he will agree. He told me has fainted like that before twice in his life when it had been very hot. And my Mum said once he fainted after seeing something horrible on the news. I have done a first aid course but it all goes out of your head when something happens.

If it was a fit, he should not be driving etc until it has been checked out. If someone seems to have had a fit, and they've never had one before, always call a doctor.
Having said that, it could have been something else, such as heart problems. Whatever the case, he needs medical attention as soon as possible. Make the appointment for him if necessary, or arrange a home visit.
