This may seem a sad question that reveals a lot about my character and my priorities in life, but I'm going to Canada and (hopefully) China this summer and I was wondering what the age restrictions on drinking and smoking are?

I'm half sure Canadian laws are the same as American, but I've no idea for China.
Thanks

For Canada the drinking and smoking ages are 19 in every province except Quebec, Manitoba, and Alberta.

China apparently has no legal drinking age, and there's no clear smoking age.

I have no idea about China, but Canada's drinking age is either 18 or 19 depending on the province.

It's also nominally 18, they are nowhere as tough in checking ID as in the US.

They only time I ever really got checked was when I went to a club. Pubs are easier.

Hope this answered your question.

Whoops. I guess Snow White already answered the question.

Hey, thanks for that, I'm actually only 16, but I don't usually have any trouble on the drinking front and I have "special identification" anyway so hopefully I'll be alright.

Smoking in Canada has odd laws. You're legally allowed to smoke when 16, but you can't buy cigarettes until you're 19. This is usually enforced. A lot of places will ID if you look under 25.

Drinking age in Ontario is 19, most of the rest of Canada is 18 though. They are quite strict about checking ID in clubs and bars.

Anyway, hope you have fun. What part of Canada are you going to?

China has no "official" drinking age.

Although no drinking age exists in China as a whole, officials in some Chinese cities are addressing the problems associated with minors and alcohol. Shenzhen, for example, recently adopted a regulation totally banning alcohol sales to children under 18 years of age. Shenzhen is the first Chinese city to prohibit the sale of alcohol to minors.

Hope your not going to Shenzhen

Montreal is a great city.

Check out St. Catherines street, its the best place to go clubbing and meet people our age. Magill university is also located off it too. The old section of town is a cool place to go for a pint.

Stay away from the casino by the river. Lost a bunch of money there.
