i am currently travelling in australia and having to work while i'm here blardeblah blah blah... basically does anybody know how easy or hard it is to get work up the east coast? i've been in sydney for bloody ages now and would love to stay in cairns for a while. i have enough money to get there and stay for a bout a fortnight, but i'd really like to work for a bit. also i've been trying to avoid the dreaded fruit-picking, but truthfully, what is it like? can you make a lot of cash or not? answers!!!

I really don't know about the job situation in Cairns but what about Brisbane?? My friend works in a bar and they hire backpackers all the time What type of work do you do in sydney??

i have a temp job in a banking company and i do not want to do this any more! a bar job or waitressing would be sweet. actually someone told me a while ago to not even bother looking for a job in brisbane because it simply wasn't going to happen. that would be great though! more information please !

ps. do places outside of sydney pay less?

Places outside of sydney do pay less but at least brisbane is warmer Maybe you could check out the job site networks for Brisbane or cairns online???? Than at least you'll have an idea on what jobs are available.

I've been to Australia a few times, and hope to have a gap year in the summer, I think that Australia has to be a place which is really easy to get work, because the aussies are really laid back..and surf?

I found that Australia have a really low unemployment rate, so i think you should be able to find a job anywhere good luck on your travels. And if their were any traditional English pubs, im sure you can get a job in one of them.

The best place to go up the east coast is byron bay, it goes off!! If you want some work, the backpackers in gold coast seem to always be keen on workers, its an awesome job They don't pay that much (i think its about $A150 a wk, but u get free accommodation, food and get to hit the town to entertain all the backpackers!). Its a shit load of fun, and a good place to surf and chill out. All the best, maybe you should look at visiting New Zealand???

its not that hard to get work, the pubs are usually crying out for people. if youre irish you'll get work in Bridie O'Reilly's handy enough.
