well, Bristol is like most cities really - it has nice parts and crap parts. UWE is out near the MoD somewhere if memory serves, no, tell a lie, its near Hewlett Packard, by the M32. well anyway, its out of town, which means using the Bristol bus system, which will cost you a fourtune, as there is a monopoly on buses in Bristol. nice student areas = Clifton & Redland (tho they tend 2 b for the other uni). my friend at UWE lives in Fishponds, which is a bit scummy, but not too bad. areas to avoid at all cost (as in walking in them - EVER) = St Pauls, also Montpelier, Withywood, Knowle. Broadmead, the main shopping area in the centre, is fucked up basically. i hate it, and try to never go there. however, Castle Park, Cannons Marsh and the new redeveloped Harbourside areas (near Broadmead) are all really really nice if you ask me - some good clubs/bars n all. also Park St, College Green around there is gorgeous. to sum up: most of the central areas are quite nice, but they are surrounded by swathes of crap, which you'll probably have to live in

Don't know about Brighton? Sounds a bit small
But the course is really good.

So there you go!
I have to admit I am a bit worried about moving to a new city, I went up to newcatsle at summer and was shocked at how small the city is! Living in London I am used to being surrounded by soooo much. There are places in London that I don't even know exsist and i've lived here all my 17yrs, 2 weeks in Newcatsle and I'd seen most of the city plus a fair bit of Sunderland!
Does anyone else feel they have to get out of their home city? I kinda feel that if I go to uni here then I'll have to live at home, and doing that's just gonna ruin the experience, in my opinion, no offence to anyone doing it like!

Yes absolutly! I'm fed up with Derby. Its just too small. Went to visit Northumbria Uni at Newcastle and the city is bigger to what i'm used to.

Just got an offer from the University of Salford. I need 5 merits from my final year subject modules in my National Diploma in Computing to do Multimedia Technology.

I'm happy as this is one of the universities i want to go to.

Three more offers to come......

*digging up old posts*

I have an offer for Cardiff, the uni I have wanted to go to for about 2 years Need to get an A in A level Psychology.

Swansea I need to get a B for.... still waiting on Exeter and Reading, but will undoubtedly be Bs, looking at their entry requirements.

Both to study degree in Psychology... actually I'm waiting to hear from Cardiff about Applied Psychology.... probably didn't need to apply for it separately, but I didn't exactly have anything to lose. Cardiff is my first choice, and has high grade requirements, and the only others i wanted to go to had the same requirements as Cardiff... the other 3 are just for insurance choices.

I already have ACD from last year btw, it's not just going on one grade

I have Leeds, UMIST, Notts Trent and Leicester. Leeds and UMIST are my top 2. What does anybody think of those? An insiders view would be good, or somebody who knows of anything particulary good or bad.

I dont know much about the other 2 - Trent and Leicester. Does anybody go there/want to go there or has been put off by them?

Cheers

Kat

Well i can help you out there!!!! I've got in to UMIST and Leeds too, what are you doing??? They're for Management for me!
As for Leicester, thats where im from and my college is actually connected with Leicester Uni-i go there loads. Umm well it's ok i guess, im not too sure what you want to know but let me know if you want any first hand info because ive lived here 18ish years and im near the city too so i know it toooo well!!!!

I was invited to UMIST to come to an open day and I just got back from it today. It was great and I really like the accomdation and the department sounds good, and honest.

Its for computer science - dont say it lol!!

I just have to decide whether Leeds is any better than it. The accomodation is risky for Leeds, I could end up a fair bit away, but I dont mind cos Leeds is a great city!

Thanks for your help

Well im from near Liverpool so if you wanna know anything about it or the uni, then just ask away or email me. I feel i wanna get away from Liverpool, but thats only cos its where I've lived all my life.

Dont be worried about the scouse accent! I dont have that much of one, and some of them can be nice. On the other hand, some of them aren't so nice. The accomodation is in some fairly nice areas but its not really in walking distance.

If you want any other bits, just ask/email away.

I've had recent offers from Central Lancs, 4 merits in final year. Not really bothered about that one

Northumbria Uni, 6 merits in my final year - a stong possibilty

Plus Salford Uni, 5 merits in my final year - my favourite so far.

To be honest I never thought I would get any unconditional offer at all. I am from austria and was thinking competition is very high in the Uk.
I've got 4 unconditional offers so far
Greenwich-Creative Industries
Westminster- European Managment
Thames Valley-Advertising&Languages
University of East London- can't remember really

1 conditional offer
London Institute-Marketing&Advertising.

My grades aren't that great,so I was just wondering, are all the universities crap or was I accepted because I'm not from the UK?

Anyone out there able to help!?!?!?!?!?!

*stillwondering*

DJP

It could be for one of three reasons, or some others which I don't know about;

(1) They're not highly competitive courses, e.g. medicine or vet science, or law - in whihc virtually everyone has to get super high grades.

(2) They're not hugely competitive unis, e.g not Oxbridge, Durham, Warwick/redbricks in general

(3) You are a foreign student, hence will pay more money.

If you are applying with the grades, i.e. you've already sat the exams, the offers will be unconditional. Just a thought, I don't know if it affects you.
