feel like just giving up eng as

im doing english combined, and handed ina practise essay/mock quetion, i didnt spend as much time as i should of done, and i got an E!, its tottally thrown me and i just want 2 drop it right now

i cant get motivated at all 2 even try
i got a b in my litt gcse so its not like im tottaly crap at eng, but this really upset me!

Don't get disheartened by your grade, as you said yourself you didn't put in much effort, so when you do the results will probably be totallly different. If however you dislike the subject or really feel you are struggling in it talk to your tutor or careers advisor.

i want to drop chemistry as i am finding it really difficult! i just think wot is the point? i keep getting d's and e's and im really getting stressed as i amworking really hard! i personally think the new as is a lot more difficult than a level. as we are constanty being tested!

I took the old 'A' levels, and my courses were modular. This means I did just as many exams are you will be doing in AS, if not more. We had them in both Januaries, and both Junes, and a couple in the middle too.

I'm taking an AS level now, to boost my UCAS points score while I earn some money towards university, and I'm doing a lot less exams. We're not doing any in January, although I would much prefer to, and are doing all of the exams in the summer.

It is much harder to get a high grade at the old 'A' level than it is at AS, even in year 12 at 'A' level compared to the equivalent at AS. Last year I looked over the AS level papers and was quite annoyed really that the more taxing parts of the syllabus had been removed, and that what remained wasn't at the same level as I had been used to. This seemed to be making it unfair; making it easier for the year younger than ours to get higher grades, because the papers weren't as in depth.

A lot of the old 'A' levels were modular before the switchover anyway, so the old students did just as many exams as you. Probably.

I'm doing combined English at A2, and sometimes I feel like giving up. I got a D for my AS level, but that was because I didn't try. Also its hard to adjust from GCSE level to AS level. Nobody forces you to do your homework.
I'm trying harder this year though, cos I need a better grade to get into university.
Sometimes I think I'm gonna fail cos I don't understand it, but our teacher has been good. We've ended up doing basic stuff, but it helps - at least I understand what the exam questions mean. I know that sounds dumb, but they use weird terminology.
Theres a girl in my class who is really good at English, and shes always talking about her brilliant answers with the teacher. She makes me feel SO stupid and depressed.

i kinda know how u feel mayella!
in my french class, there are some ppl who just seem to have been born with the ability to know exactly how to say everything in correct french, and our teacher loves them because of this.
i hate her lessons now cos i dont feel confident enough to speak in discussions as when i get things wrong she makes me feel SO crap!
dont worry though, your teacher sounds ok so she/he shld help you get your grades!

I know how you feel about the english. I am from Scotland and we study highers instead of A levels. They are shorter courses and supposedly less hard work. But I hate the english. I tend to aim quite high and I feel awful when I don't achieve as high as I'd like to. We have a specialist study which involves writing 1800 words on a book, and I just can't do it. I think you have to relax and just get it over with. Think about when you get to uni and you will never have to study english again - what a fab thought!

I'm resitting my AS modules in January. I don't know why cos I'll just do worse.
I need to do better in English cos it is my worst subject. I want to get a C at least.
Did anyone else read Frankenstein for AS. I thought it was really hard to understand.

I did Frankenstein for A Level, I really liked it actually. It's much easier to read than many other of the set texts. Just babble on about the monster being a reflection of the dark side of Frankenstein.
Everyone complaining about AS Levels, just stop it! It's not as though A Levels were any easier, and at least you have the chance to study more subjects which I would have liked to do.
