You're not doing a very good job of promoting the benefit of ICQ, but I'll list them anyway:

- I (as in ME) can join conferences. Cos I'm all lonely at the moment.
- Users who are online go to the top of the list, so you don't miss anyone.
- The new version of ICQ, you can send SMS (txt msgs) for FREE!
- You get a message history
- Easier and better file transfer
- Ability to send URLs as a seperate msg.
- Ability to send the same message to multiple ppl (after only sending once, if u get my drift).
- ICQ can automatically check ur email every x minutes when ur online.
- The Profiles system on ICQ is so much better - more details, easier to access.
- You don't have to sign up for yet ANOTHER goddamn email account!

Well, I think that is a fairly comprehensive list of ICQs benefits. That is, of course, other than what Yahoo can do - which as far as I can see is send IMs, hold conferences and generally be useless.

Plus, ICQ tends to log in more or less instantly and 99% of the time, unlike Yahoo which is generally crap.

Maybe it's time to get ICQ ppl.

well actually my file transfer doesnt work on icq, and it does on yahoo... but ive used icq for about 3 years and yahoo not that much! its coz of our weird network thingies though, i connect through my dad's modem in another computer with a local network, and it doesnt like that! but aside from teh general screwy uppyness lately, it works alright <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">

and yuo have can icq chats with multiple people too, like yahoo. you can set it so you can see people's messages as they're writing them, or as normal IM style, in chats.

Yeah, how forget that. There is also an IRC option so that it looks like normal IRC chat - possibly less confusing when you have 6 ppl in a chat room, but not as pretty to look at!

Which is why we ALL agreed to YAHOO those few months ago, it was a quick download easy to instal and use, and rather attractive looking. FWIWIMHO ICQ is ugly, unser unfriendly (it crashed my machine on 1st use) and damn it a pisser of a download. Even &lt;mutters under breathe&gt; MSN Messenger is better.

Well in my opinion, yahoo is always crashing, disconnecting me, making me see two of what people say in conferences, making people invisible in conferences, crashes my computer, and basically just annoys me, msn is good cos ive never had any problems with that, and icq is a bit complicated for me.

i got version icq2000b.. what you then need to do is goto options and put icq into 'advanced mode'.. then right click on a name and choose sms.. then set up their mobile number on the 'i' button.. the person you are texting has to be a icq member as well tho.. you can send and recieve sms msgs.. hope that helps..

Well where you have a big massive list of ppl, well if youve got a big massive list, at the bottom near the ICQ button and ur status,

theres a little icon with a phone on it, if you click on that, then click on sms message, you get this little box up, then you type the number in but leave the 0 off the beginning,

then write ur message and click on send!

Simple as that.

Can I just ask, how come some people go on invisible all the time? I hardly ever go on invisible, unless theres on certain person who I don't want to to talk to, which is hardly ever. Some people say they go on invisible because if lots of people message them it gets confusing but just do what I do and invite them all into a conference! lol
