View Full Version : Who'd be a vicar?

Seems the clergy in England and Wales are after a pay rise. They currently get an average £16,400 salary.
Now apart from having to talk about God all the time, and say prayers, this seems like another reason NOT to be a vicar.
I'd put vicaring alongside streetcleaning, call centering and cleaning out portaloos at festivals as jobs I Most Certainly Wouldn't Want To Do.
Any worse ones?
hmmm well I am guessing that people who have a strong faith and are devoted to God would want to be vicars and therefore the money is irrelevant.
but a worse job........
Our halls of residence cleaner, we do try honest, but sometimes things get a bit messy!

bollocks job anyway. Rather preach the ideals of satan.

I think a secondary school teacher would be a way worse job than a vicar. Vicars probably love their job because they're serving God.
But surely taking the cloth is a vocation, rather than a career?

I think £16,400 is a good wage for a vicar! How difficult can it be? £16,400 is more than most every day joe public people receive a year.

£16k might be ok in manchester but it's shite in berkshire!
considering the higher priced housing and council tax.
someone down here on 16k is gonna struggle financially.
when u see that a house in manchester worth £30k costs £130k down my end, u'll know what i'm on about <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
so do vicars in different parts of the country get different salaries or what? anyone know?
I don't think they should get paid owt personally! Thieving bastards. they should live on bread and water. hehehe!

Personally I dont see how anyone can devote their life to something they dont know is true for sure.
Especially not for that amount of money.

Just to give u an idea... the typical price of a flat in Reading, Berks is £90,000
You would be lucky to get a house for that much, if u did it would be a dump in need of major repair in a shite area.
The average price for a 2 bedroom house is around £130,000 and it wouldn't be anything special.
Its because Thames Valley is the UK's equivalent of Silicon Valley. There are loads of well paid IT jobs here and to be honest, that's why we moved here.
My hubby and I both being web developers get paid way more money here and have bigger opportunities than back home in the East Midlands.
So if you want to go into IT especially web development, the South East is the place to be. And because London is commutable u will have even more opportunites.

Oh and I freelance from home because I have a small child and there are plenty of web companies willing to offer the projects.
