They say that you can become addicted to the gym, but is this true?

I doubt it could be a bad thing could it?

Yes it's true.

Exercise releases endorphins, a chemical which makes you feel good. This is the smae chemical released by eating chocolate or having sex. It's addictive.

Over-exercising IS bad for you, putting excess strain on you heart etc.

P.S. Did you know that the man who promoted jogging as a form of exercise actually died of a heart attack - whilst jogging?

speaking of people dying in the gym...

douglas adams... he was only what, 60 ish? no it was 50 something. he went to the gym, was excercising happily - heart attack.

my dad's friend - bout the same age, 50 spomething, otherwise healthy - exercising happily on various gym equipment - heart attack. all within a month.

if that isnt an omen to stay away from the gym, i dont know what is...

Look into these tired eyes. See something you might recognise.

U can definatly get addicted to the gym....well exercise full stop. It is bad for u if u have any other condition like anorexia where u r over exercising and painfully thin....u could have a heart attack. When I was at my worst eating wise, I used to get up in the night and exercise lmfao!!!

i enjoy going to the gym (most of the time <IMG alt="image" alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/biggrin.gif">)) but i've never felt 'addicted'...however i have and do feel sorta guilty if i miss a few work outs...

the lads have got to watch for the steroid pushers in the gym too. If you become a regular (in a bodybuilding gym) and people know you, you'll get offered anabolic steroids sooner or later. I was. And i tried them for a *very* short time.

OK they work, but u can acheive the same naturally, it just takes longer. And the gains that u make stay there whereas when u stop taking steriods, it more or less drops off....also it gave me terrible acne on my back which didnt go for ages, BIG stretch marks, mad mood swings etc etc.....not worth it.
