Was anyone affected by last year May Day Riots? Or did you take part?
Just curious cos it was on the news last night about the trouble they're expecting this year.

It was an anti-capitalism demonstration that turned nasty and they started smahing everything they could lay their hands on.

almost. it was an anti-capitalism RIOT that was PLANNED to be a riot by the people rioting (funnily enuff).
U read the sunday times and crap after may day '00, they got reports from undercover reporters who "infiltrated" the rioters and got in with the conspiracy plots etc.
and the same thing happens EVERY year in switzerland, mainly the neo-nazis and commies (i guess???)

Here's a version of events from the Evening Standard newspaper:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/news/top_story.html?in_review_id=2 77891&in_review_text_id=223763 (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/news/top_story.html?in_review_id=277891&in_review_text_id=223763)
The 'How the rioters were vanquished' link gives a good idea of what was going on.

that only backs up what i said - that the riots were organised, were always meant to be riots.

There all a bunch of fucking hippies, surely they must realise they cant hope to change the system with actions like that.

no, they probably realise that being anti-captilist (and one thus assumes pro-socialist?) in this day and age is hopeless and pointless. and when all else fails, turn to violence.

Its all very well and good for them to say that, but so what if they take direction? Maybe the government is pulling the wool over our eyes?
That is irrelevant, as long as the majority of the population believes that the current system is good, then nothing will change. By carrying out these acts of violence and desecration (what they did to the centograph and statue of W.Churchill was disgusting) then they will never recieve public support.

I have to agree here, the behaviour of these people was nothing but disgusting. People have the right to protest, but I don't believe that these protests are ever truly about the issue they start out "protesting" about, it's a smokescreen for violence, in the same way religion is used for war. We've seen anti-capitolism demonstrations all turn into violence, Quebec being the latest victim, These assholes don't care that the taxpayer foots the bill for the police & security, and the clean up operation following their destruction, perhaps because they don't pay tax. Whether capitolism works I wouldn't like to say, the plain and simple fact is we live in a capitolist society, but destruction of property and violence against people will never change that simple fact.
It's pretty obvious that London will suffer again on May 1st, but I hope the police can quell it with the whatever action is needed, and damage and personal injury kept to a minimum.

And do u know why, because they are a bunch of jobless, tree hugging hippies and tramps. It is a chance for the beggars and vagrants and big issue sellers of London to get their own back on a system they cant hope to defeat.
And do you know what, I hope the police are allowed to smash their kneecaps in, give them the treatment they deserve.
And do you know what they should do to the animal rights activists? Break their legs and then tell them they cannot have pain killers because they have been tested on animals. That'll teach the hypocrites.

Tolerance isn't a word you know a lot about. You can not bring peace with the knife. Yes I hope those who bring violence to the streets get arrested and bought to justice, but to break legs and kneecaps is just a ludicrous idea. I actually find your comments about the homeless and big issue vendors bordering on slanderous, oh I just thought <sarchasm engaged> they don't have a home, or a computer therefore can't see your comment and take offence, so it doesn't matter right?. Silly me.

Sorry, your new here so you dont understand my views on things like this. I am normally an easy going guy, but your right, I dont have any tolerance for people who take part in activities like this that are they know full well is a chance for them to act in a violent manner. Dont give me any crap about it being a peaceful protest with the majority behaving themselves, last year the majority of the people there were doing something they shouldnt be doing, and it will be the same again this year. Maybe I was being sarcastic about the homeless taking revenge, but how many of the demonstrators have jobs do u think? Not many or they wouldn't be demonstrating against capitalism would they. As far as I am concerned they can all be locked away for good or sent to China/Cuba and see what its like living under a cimmunist dictatorship.

I'm in the office and looking out over Leicester Square. Some of the businesses have been completely boarded up, and there are little groups of men with no necks, trying not to look like security guards (and failing miserably). It's a bit scary, but if it all kicks off I'll lean out the window and get some good pics - in true journo stylee. Wish me luck...

Actually, I didn't forget to post the Christmas photos. Somebody I know deleted them to get rid of the evidence. Why? His hair wasn't perfect, or his cheekbones weren't highlighted enough or something...
:P
We're still waiting to see if anything happens in the square below. Gawd, I feel like Kate Adie. Where's me flak jacket?

Guess what, after all the rioting the bloody jobless hippies are gonna try and sue the police.
I think the police and courts should just tell them to all go and fu** themselves.
