I dont really follow politics and that, when iwas bored one night i did actually watch the house of commons thing on digital <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/redface.gif">

I thought it was really interesting and was an argument between Tony Blair and William Hague, they were both firing comments at each other about different things and everything one of them said the other had a fact to prove them wrong about something or other,

shoudlt hey not work together ffs instead of going against each other, maybe they should co operstae and make this country a bit better together, i mean i know they r gonna disagree on things but we cant always have things our own way and there is this thing called comprimise, it seems a bit selfish of them that we have lots of different political partys because they cant come to some sort of agreement about things,

i mean i know tis all more complicated than what it sounds but i dont know i just think does it not sound better??

anyway my whole point of this post really is that im going to be 18 next year and i dont think im even going to vote, i dont think id know who to vote for, and if thiings went wrong id feel a bit pissed of that id voted for a party full of wankers,

how do u know theyre not lying all the time, i mean with all the things u hear them say to each other, it seems that they r lying to us all the time, there are always things that r good that they have done but then the other person will come along and say well u might have done that but because of that look at these statistics or something,

id find it very hard to believe anything any of them say, seems it all promises promises from all of them and none of them ever really seem to be carrying these out like they hype them all up to be,

its like theyll say ok u can have a big chocolate cake if u vote for me and i get elected so u go and vote for them they get elected and u only get half a cake thats out of date,

I know thats a weird thing to compare it to but it was the first example i could think of,

so for all u ppl who vote, how do u decide which one to vote for,

im not asking who u vote for because i know thats something a lot of ppl dont like to answer,

i mean how do u decide which one is gooing to be the best, they all say they r going to do things but its all just so they can look better than the other partys, do you vote ont he fact of what they promise u?

i dont think i could vote for them baes upon that because a lot of them r lies anyway just tryna get u to vote for them,

who do you think will be elected next time?

does anyone think that a politician can tell the truth for once?

they have the cheek to slag ppl of who lie and r corrupted wellt hey r all a load of con artists in my opinion.

Interesting point, and yes, it seems politicians do always lie.
You say you aren't going to vote, that is fine. But if you dont vote it means you arent being heard. Because unlike in the states, every vote over here counts. It may seem unlikely but your vote could be the decider and the country will enter a new golden era where everyone is rich and happy.
If you dont vote then you are wasting your oppotunity. You dont just have to vote for the 2 main parties, there are others such as the Liberal democrats, green party, socialist party and british national party.
If you dont vote then you have no right to moan when things go wrong. If you do vote then you have every right to because you know your vote was wasted.
I hope this makes sense, im not too great at wording things out in a rush.

I totally agree that it is very important to vote, as it is the basis of a democratic society. I see voting as more than a right...it's a duty.

As Whowhere said, I think people who don't vote have little right to complain later on. I know a single vote may not seem to make much of a difference, but you should exercise your right to have a say in the way your country is run and you can't if you don't vote.

Yeah, politics can be ugly and full of lies and corruption. But as a voter, you are the one who can vote out a liar in the next election, or toss out the MP who didn't keep his promises.

As for choosing who to vote for, I guess you just need to do some research. Find the party or candidate who has the policies that best reflect your views.

Basically, voting is your only chance to have an effect, no matter how small it seems, to have a say in policy and law that effect you every day, so I feel really strongly about taking part in the process. It's about your life, really.

Am I making sense? Hope you do vote when you are able. Any chance you would reconsider?

As for voting rights ...if one can't see a suitable candidate then surely one's duty is to not vote... voting is not a voice its a vote for the underlying democratic (many rule) system and if the systems sucks then your right to not vote is a "we don't want any of this" not "we can't be bothered"..
increasing percentages of non voters is the proof...
don't vote ........you know it makes sense..it costs nothing.. and does the thing that acares politics to death....no voters.
its efficient..and effective ..every thing else costs time or money....strikes protests court cases,, all within the democratic system...
less is more........
if you always do what you've done
then you will always get what you've got.

Er who do you think you are? Who made you a moderator? Or have you just elevated yourself to some kind of position making you superior to others here? So what if people bring up a few old threads? Maybe it's a bit annoying but is it really that bigger deal? Or do you just have a little too much time on your hands? Nobody is forcing you to read them or respond.
