Talk, talk, talk...that is about all the UN is good for. They are worse than meddleing busybodies...and quite frankly, if they moved their headquarters out of CONUS it would really suit most of US just fine. They need a new building...so, why don't you start a campeign to get them to move to London?

The UN is a planitary cansor and we are tired of paying its bills...had ubl hit that building with his planes there might actually be support for him in US instead of a determination to destroy him and put the wrecking ball to the nations that made ubl happen.

US is the top dog...why should we give a fart in a windstorm about some turdworld shithole nation(s)? Well...it's because we like to play god and bring good things to people that we see as unfit or unable to do as much for themselves...and we do it well while plundering the resources necessary to further the image and our lifestyle.

That will piss off more than a few...but the truth usually does. But we are already defeated in our effort to bring enlightenment to self cripeling societies who want draconian control over their pesants while promising honey cakes and virgins in paradise and limiting education to one book...etc. (wonder what the 'virgins' of islam think about this notion?)

As for how I would feel if these 'things' were done to any of my womenfolk...I would take my gun and blow the fuckwits head off for the effort...and anyone with him/her! Can't expect folks in the ol pirate kingdom to understand the concept of self defense...expecially those committed to be ing victims. (not a flame, just a truthful observation)

all I ever hear from the UN is bitching about the worlds problems and that the US is the root of all of them. Im sick of it. As far as protecting women from rape, thats laughable, seeing as how theres a major investigation indicting UN workers and peacekeepers for trading sexual favors for food. The UN is a force for good in the world, they do a lot of good work with famine relief and disease prevention and are an essential organ for international diplomacy.

There actions often seem remote and pointless to us because most of their work is in LEDC's and dangerous areas ie not Britain or the US

The efforts for disarmament are commendable though I don't expect most of the Americans on this site to agree with them.

A good example of their vital role as a neutral agent is the UN weapons inspectors in Iraq, there would be no chance of letting anyone else in (who aren't supporters of Saddam) and they did a useful job in the face of adversity.

Rape victims or potential rape victims have every right to be armed. In avoidanace however of turning this into another gun thread, thats all Im going to contribute to that front.
While I agree somewhat that the lack of US involvement may have contributed to the rise of Hitler, I'd also submit there was a lot more to it than that. For one, after WWI, the treatment of Germany by the victorious allies left the Fatherland poor, destitute and angry. So much that a charismatic and persuasive individual like Hitler and his ilk came to power and I have to say, justifiably, set out to reverse the situation the allies wrought upon Germany.
