I'm looking at getting one for my mum for mothers day.
I've never used one before, just wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

I was just about to post the exact same question!
I've heard to Kodak ones are quite good, though can be expensive.

I don't think that frames are mature enough in technology yet. Many are still only in 640x480 resolution, regardless to their physical size. The pixels will be much more noticeable than on mobile phones, of which even many of those have that resolution now.

We have this one and have also bought it for other people - I think it is brilliant but not sure how it compares to others!

One of the benefits is being able to change the frame colour!

There probably are, or if not I would get a design patent on that right now. The one splodgey recommend looks nice, it's very similar to mine except Philips is a better name than Technika so I wouldn't be surprised if it came with better warranty and maybe better build quality? Mine is anything but plasticy though.

Why are frame manufacturers reluctant to state their resolutions? Anyway, I'm holding my horses until they reach 1600x1200.

You will be able to make out the pixels on 480 x 234 resolution on a 7" display. At least you can credit them for actually stating their res this time.
