I've used it a bit, only the burning rom bit. Didn't notice much difference from 7 really. I used the other bits like recode more with 7, dunno what the difference is now though.

its a program for burning things to disc/dvd

combination of CDBurnerXP and IMGburn for the win tho really, does everything you could need...

having said that i do have Nero on this PC, never use it tho

I've tried Nero 8 sometimes, but only the CD burner module (has a lot of other modules for various stuff as well.). Having been using Nero for quite a few years, Nero 8 turned out to be as expected as well. I've never really had any issues with using Nero at all compared to most other burner programs that I've tried, seems to be the most stable and reliable software if you ask me.

By all mean, CDburner XP is also very good, but it has failed to write a cd properly occasionally.

Isn't Alchohol for being able to mount an iso file as a virtual dvd-station as well?

I always use copytodvd - works a treat with a load of laptops that have given me problems when using other software.

Yeah it allows you to mount a CD or DVD image on a virtual drive.

Nero has a similar feature called ImageDrive, however it can only load .iso or .nrg images.

Yep, sounded familiar, think I've used it once for that. I find deamon tools good for that tho. Mounts many of the standard image file types one'd expect.

Yeah, when I used to play games, Daemon tools often was able to emulate the copy protection on games where alcohol failed.
