Hi guys.

I have to do an essay for uni, the task is to compare a 3 minute sequence out of 2 films.

The thing is, I can only pick 1 film of my own choice as one of the other films has to be from the module. The film I have to watch is The Conversation. I need another film like that to compare it with and Im having trouble coming up with a similar title. I was thinking of doing Insomnia but Im not sure if its the best choice.

Any suggestions?

Well I haven't seen it, but going by the descriptions online, perhaps a Hitchcock film would be a good comparison? Do the parlour scene in Psycho (the one directly before the shower scene) because it's perfectly shot, and it's the pivotal point in the entire narrative.

There are very few films like The Conversation. There's a bit at the end that doesn't wash with me, where what we've been watching is turned around by the slightest of inflections that clearly wasn't present in the preceding story, but nonetheless it is very good.

I'd agree with the Hitchcock theme somewhat, but I'd say Rear Window would be similar in terms of Jimmy Stewart's and Gene Hackman's positions as observers.

Fuck sakes I should do your degree.

yeah i was gonna say something based on sound design as The Conversation has some extraordinary work in that department.
