Its really nice, Dulwich is only a stones throw away and there is a massive park in the middle of Herne Hill itself.

Its expensive though.

You think its a safe (or safeish) area of London to live ?

Safeish - i mean nowhere in London is 100% safe but its not half as bad as its reputation either - you just have to be sensible.

You might find this (http://www.upmystreet.com/l/Se24.html)useful as well

It depends, obviously if you are further towards Brixton then not so much, but Herne Hill itself and definitely Dulwich are posh and safe.

The only minor problem I would think of is if you are getting the bus down to there late at night you'll have to go through Elephant and Castle which is a bit rough.

Herne Hill is very safe in my opinion. It's also very nice, but quite expensive and becoming a little too yuppy-ish for my liking. But then I much prefer North london so its horses for courses really.
But yes, it's a nice, safe place to live in London.

Lovely Walworth, parts are ok, however parts are definitely not. And there is the delight that is East Street market.

Ahh I love the East Street market. We have this lovely little (I think illegal) market on Sunday's on Westmoreland Road. You can buy some glorious tat there.

I however live in the vast Aylesbury Estate which is pretty pants. Having said that, I've lived here for nearly four years and I've been fine. No robberies, no muggings, no verbal or physical abuse... it can be quite nice actually.

I know what you mean, you hear horror stories about the area but in the main it isnt as bad as people make out.

I guess you wont be living there for another four years, its being torn down isnt it?

Supposedly, they are having a helluva time with it. I was local area correspondent on my university newspaper this year and know all the ins and outs of the regeneration. I even got an exclusive interview with the head of the project and did this really interesting piece (which then got chopped to pieces and turned into a "In Brief") about the Elephant shopping centre market traders. The amount of, what seems to be, corruption and bureaucracy going on behind the scenes is appalling.

But yeah, I think I might be moving to Stratford otherwise I'm going to go mad. :D

There is an awesome butchers around the corner in Dulwich. They have queues forming outside the shop!

Just for when you're thinking about food ;)
